About This Pub

Ah, The Thatch – it's one of those places that just hits the spot for a casual get-together. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, folks are raving about the friendly faces behind the counter who make you feel like you're chatting with old mates. The food's a real winner too; we're talking generous servings of tasty breakfasts, fresh juices, and tempting cakes that leave you wondering how to finish it all. Perched right by the sea, it's got these amazing views that add a bit of magic to your meal, whether you're grabbing a bite indoors or out in the fresh air. On the flip side, it does wrap up early in the afternoon, so it's more for daytime vibes than a proper evening session. Parking's just street-side, which can be a minor headache, and if you're with a furry friend, you'll have to keep them outside after ordering. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back meal – I'd say give it a try if you're in the area, as the positives far outweigh the niggles, and it's got that genuine charm that keeps people coming back.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • The food is absolutely spot on – think hearty portions that leave you stuffed, with delicious options like big breakfasts and tasty cakes.
  • You've got those stunning sea views, which make it a perfect spot for a relaxed meal while soaking in the scenery.
  • Comfortable seating both inside and out, so whether it's a sunny day or you're dodging the rain, it's sorted.
  • Prices are fair and reasonable, giving you great value without breaking the bank.
Cons
  • It closes fairly early around 4 PM, so it's not ideal if you're after a late-night pint or evening catch-up.
  • Street parking is the only option, which might be a bit of a faff in a busy area.
  • Dogs aren't allowed inside, though you can pop in to order and then head out, which could be inconvenient for dog owners.
  • No website means it's trickier to check menus or book ahead online – you're relying on popping by or calling.

I just love this little cafe, friendly staff, great food and drink, prices are reasonable and it has amazing views of the sea. Took my Bestie for lunch, I reserved our table as it was a Saturday, comfortable seating indoors and the food portions were fabulous, we actually couldn't eat it all, we were stuffed. Great job Thatch staff, we will be back.

My first time visiting The Thatch, even after living in Lowestoft for over 20 years! From the minute I walked in I was so impressed with how nice the place was inside. Whilst waiting in the queue to be served, I noticed the cakes and sausages rolls on display + they looked delicious! We went for a full English breakfast and it was top notch, great quality ingredients which from the menu suggested they were all locally sourced which is even better! I thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast and will be recommending The Thatch to my family/friends. Already looking forward to returning!

The Thatch is located at Kirkley Cliff Rd, Lowestoft NR33 0BY. It has tidy and nice seating area at both inside and outside the restaurant. Food are delicious. Attached a 18 hole golf green playing area. Two tidy Toilets inside the restaurant. Not aware any parking area except street parking. Nice place to enjoy coffee and beer. Recommends to visit.

If you walk along the promenade at the top, you'll see this bright blue building. There's outside and indoor seating. Toilets available. Dogs are not allowed inside, however, you can take them in to order at the till and eat outside. Food was served really fast. The breakfast was REALLY big. Inside was comfortable, although it does get very busy. I'd definitely come back here again !! To note- be vigilant of the seagulls on the roof outside, they'll watch your food.
