About This Pub
Ah, The Terrace Sports Bar & Kitchen in York – it's one of those places that really pulls you in if you're a fan of live sports, with massive screens showing everything from Premier League matches to F1 races, and they've got Sky and TNT Sports to boot. I love how they've kept things affordable with those special offers, like grabbing four gins on a tree for £22 or cheap pints during the week – it's just the thing for a midweek catch-up with mates. The home-cooked food is another highlight; those chunky chips are spot on when they're done right, and it's nice to know they're made fresh daily. But, and I have to be straight with you, it's not all plain sailing. Some reviews mention dodgy hospitality, like being turfed out for carrying in a harmless drink, which sounds a bit over the top and could spoil your night. Plus, the food can be inconsistent – that fish finger sarnie might not live up to the hype if the portions are skimpy or the chips aren't crispy enough. Overall, it's a decent spot for York city centre, especially if you're after a buzzing atmosphere for the big games, but I'd say go in with an open mind and maybe avoid peak times if you're worried about the service. It's got that classic pub charm with room for improvement, so if you're planning a visit, keep an eye on those drink deals and hope for the friendlier side of things!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The big screens and live sports coverage are brilliant – perfect for catching all the action from football, rugby, F1, and more, making it a top choice for sports enthusiasts.
-
They've got some cracking special offers on drinks, like four Gordon's gins for £22 or mix-and-match cocktails, which really add to the fun without breaking the bank.
-
The home-cooked food hits the spot, especially those chunky chips that are fresh and never frozen – a real treat when you're settling in for the game.
-
Prices are pretty reasonable for York, with pints and food deals that won't leave you feeling short-changed.
-
When the staff are on form, they're welcoming and helpful, going out of their way to make sure everyone has a good time.
Cons
-
Hospitality can be hit or miss; some folks have had rough experiences where they've been asked to leave over silly things, which puts a dampener on the vibe.
-
Food quality isn't always consistent – like those chunky chips that sometimes lack crispiness, or portions that feel a bit underwhelming, such as the fish finger sandwich.
-
Security and staff attitudes have been called out as cocky or unapproachable in a few cases, which might make you think twice about popping in for a relaxed visit.
-
Based on recent feedback, the overall experience has dipped a bit, with some feeling less than welcome, especially if you're just looking for a casual lunch and drinks.

Horrible hospitality. Ordered drinks in the first half of the match and while we waiting for the second half for the other drinks been asked to live. Cocky and not smart security and the possibly I believe he was the owner. Not recommended.
Also need to add after owner's answer, ordered carling and guiness plus as explained was waiting for the second half and told that to the owner as well. Can proof with bank statement lol. Nobody has to drink back to back or fast, put a warning on the door as drink fast then :)
Lovely place staff very friendly my daughter got cheese n beans toasty. Chunky chips nice, nice sports bar. Definitely recommend
Not very welcoming. We were looking for a place to get some lunch and have a few drinks. But were curtly asked to leave as soon as we sat down by a member of staff because my youngest son had carried in a sealed, unopened bubble tea that he’d bought from round the corner and they took exception.
Fine. That’s £120 I went and spent in another of the many welcoming pubs in the city centre.
The place was unusually almost empty on a weekday lunchtime during half term, while almost every other pub and restaurant in the vicinity was packed, but having experienced their lack of hospitality first hand and then read some reviews, it’s very easy to understand why. It’s a wonder they’re able to remain in business.
Avoid at all costs. There are many better places that will value your custom within under a minute’s walk.
EDIT- (in retort to what seems to be the characteristic, dismissive response from the management of this dive bar): The next pub down the road didn’t care about my young boy’s soft drink and welcomed us with great service, great food, live sport and a great range of drinks. So we spent all afternoon spending our money in there.
It’s your loss entirely. 🤡
Amazing staff! Really welcoming and helpful. I went in to see a specific Olympic event and they searched around and got it for me, thanks guys. Food I had was fine.
Nice bar. Reasonable prices for York. Had the large fish finger sandwich, which was basically a small fish in a sub. Nice big chips, but because of the size they wasn't very crispy. If they're gonna serve chips that big, they need to be double fried in beef dripping to get the chips described in the menu. Overall, I wouldn't go back.
