About This Pub
Ah, The Swan at Whittington – it's one of those pubs that feels like a proper local gem, tucked away in the heart of the village. I've heard from loads of people that the food is generally spot on, with their steaks cooked to perfection and plenty of fresh, seasonal ingredients making everything taste that bit more special. The atmosphere is just lovely, especially if you're popping in for one of their midweek deals like Steak Night, which keeps things wallet-friendly. It's also brilliant for groups or if you've got a dog in tow, as the garden's a great spot to relax. But, to be fair, it's not all perfect – a few mates have mentioned dodgy experiences with things like the vegan options not living up to expectations, and service can sometimes feel a tad lacking, with waitstaff not always on top form. Still, with an overall solid rating, it's worth giving it a go if you're after a laid-back evening out, just maybe keep an eye on what you order to avoid any surprises.
Pros and Cons

The food is absolutely brilliant, with fresh, locally sourced ingredients that make dishes like their steaks and burgers a real highlight.
-
It's got a warm and welcoming atmosphere that's perfect for a relaxed catch-up with mates or family gatherings.
-
They're super dog-friendly, with a lovely garden area where you can enjoy a meal with your furry companion.
-
Great value specials like Monday Steak Night and Taco Tuesday keep things affordable and add a bit of excitement to the week.
Cons
-
Some menu items can be a bit disappointing, like the vegan burger that didn't quite hit the mark for a few folks.
-
Service can be inconsistent at times, with stories of having to sort out your own cutlery or staff seeming in a rush.
-
There have been complaints about overcooked food, which is a pity when the rest of the grub is so good.

Popped in for a bite to eat after a visit to St.Peters Harden Centre. We had our dog so it was perfect to sit in the garden.
We both ordered the Surf and Turf. It was the best meal I've had in a long time. Garlic prawns were delicious and both steaks were cooked perfectly. The tenderstem and chips were also fantastic. 5 stars all round! Thank you!
Extremely disappointed after initially being excited about this place having a separate vegan menu. When you order something called “mushroom and red pepper burger”, you naturally assume it will be a burger pattie made out of mushrooms and peppers. Otherwise, something with sliced mushrooms and peppers that are at least fried and seasoned. Instead, this is what I received, priced at £16. If the chef seriously thought this was okay to sell to someone, they should try biting into a flaccid, unseasoned single mushroom with peppers between two slices of bread and see just how tasty it is. Vegan food does not have to be bland, boring or ridiculously simple. A good chef should take pride in their menu and should thrive in the challenge of creating a variety of different meals, not just meat and dairy focussed ones. Additionally, when I had to send this monstrosity back to the kitchen (politely), the waitress insisted it was my fault for interpreting the menu wrong, offered no apology or alternative to my meal, and was generally quite flippant about it.
We had an impromptu family reunion at The Swan. They were happy to accept a large (11) table booking.
We hadn't all been together in several years so we weren't an easy bunch to service - chatting, late-comers... the service staff were friendly, and kept all orders correct. We were able to feel at home and enjoy out time together by eating terrific food. Everyone was happy with their means, I ordered the Fish Pie and it was delicious.
I can highly recommend The Swan. Unfortunately I live in the states - otherwise I'd be there today for another taste of their Fish Pie!
Beautiful place. Amazing food. Very reasonably priced with very relaxing atmosphere..been few times now..cheese burger is a must as its delicious
£17 "steak" ciabatta , over cooked & about 5 small slices. Chips were cold !
Breaded chicken was so soggy the covering slide off.
Garlic mushrooms maybe as well just been mushrooms.
Table service was non existence, had to get own cutlery , tried adress a waitress but was keen to get off shift was ignored til she sat table next with her wine , not 1 member of staff checked if all was fine.
Also had to sit on own table & ask for menus
Severely over priced for the service & food.
Albiet , beautiful garden but only good point about it
