About This Pub

Ah, The Station Pub – it's one of those places that just sticks in your mind after a visit. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the atmosphere is spot on; think live music pumping through the air and events that pull in the crowds for a right good laugh. It's heartening to see them putting in the effort with charity work, like supporting the homeless and running community do's, which really makes you feel like you're part of something bigger when you pop in for a pint. The prices are dead reasonable too, so you can enjoy a few drinks without worrying about the wallet, and the unique decor with all its historical quirks adds a lovely touch of character that you don't find everywhere. On the flip side, though, there have been a couple of safety issues, like that evacuation due to pyrotechnics, which might put some folks off if they're after a quiet, no-fuss night. Plus, with it only being open a few days a week, it could be a pain if you're not planning ahead. All in all, it's a solid choice for anyone in Ashton-under-Lyne looking for a genuine, community-driven pub experience – just keep an eye on the schedule and expect the odd surprise!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely brilliant, with live music and events that really get everyone in the mood for a good time.
  • They're doing some amazing charity work, like helping the homeless and hosting community events, which gives the place a real heart-warming feel.
  • Prices are spot on for a casual night out – inexpensive and won't break the bank, making it perfect for a cheeky pint with mates.
  • The decor is unique and full of character, with all sorts of historical bits and pieces that make you feel like you're stepping into a proper local legend.
Cons
  • There have been a few safety mishaps, like that incident with pyrotechnics leading to an evacuation, which is a bit worrying if you're after a relaxed evening.
  • It seems like they don't open every day, which might catch you out if you're planning a spontaneous visit and fancy a drink mid-week.
  • Being unclaimed on Google might mean things aren't always as polished as they could be, so service or updates could be hit or miss.

An absolute gem, the likes of which we don’t have enough of nowadays. The walls of this totally unique community pub are bedecked with arcane treasures and curios in glass cabinets, art and photography, items of historical interest and perhaps a dozen Best Pub awards, which are well-earned because it’s a centre for community and arts activities as well as a proper boozer where strangers receive a warm welcome and a cold beer. The beer itself is perfectly looked-after with a good selection in the traditional pub style, the pub dog is a charmer, the building is phenomenal with grand high ceilings, sweeping red curtains, a conservatory and cozy alcoves with a real log fire blazing beneath the ornate Victorian hearth. The poetry night is superb on the 3rd Sunday of each month. An unusually high standard of work. The Station has heart and soul and history in spades. Best pub in Ashton, and depending on what you’re looking for, a contender for best pub in greater Manchester.
