About This Pub
Ah, The Stag at Mentmore – it's one of those places that just makes you smile from the moment you walk in. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is a real highlight; think hearty, well-crafted British dishes that change with the seasons, and those Sunday lunches sound like they'd hit the spot after a country walk. The service gets plenty of praise too – folks mention attentive servers who make you feel right at home, whether you're there for a quick drink or a full meal. It's got that community spirit going for it, being locally owned and free from big brewery ties, which adds a nice touch of authenticity. On the flip side, it's not the cheapest spot out there, so if you're watching the pennies, you might want to save it for a special occasion. And with it only open Wednesday to Sunday, you'll need to check the times to avoid disappointment. All in all, it's a gem for anyone after quality grub and a laid-back atmosphere, but just keep those little niggles in mind for a balanced trip.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely delicious and seasonal, with standout dishes like those Sunday roasts that leave you wanting more.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making every visit feel welcoming and personal.
-
It's a beautiful spot in the Buckinghamshire countryside, with a cosy bar and a lovely beer garden that's perfect for a relaxed afternoon.
-
Being community-owned and award-winning with two AA Rosettes, it has that genuine, local charm that really sets it apart.
-
They're super family-friendly and dog-friendly, so it's easy to pop in with the little ones or the four-legged mates.
Cons
-
It can be a tad on the pricey side, which might catch you off guard if you're expecting a standard pub meal.
-
They only open five days a week, so you'll have to plan around that if you're keen for a midweek visit.

A fabulous Father’s Day feast at The Stag. Our server, Will, was a credit to your team! Delicious Sunday roasts and a light dessert to finish - the Citrus Madeline was perfect. Clean, bright and stylish interior with a beautiful garden. It made our Sunday.
Very well run, friendly and beautiful pub. Cannot fault it in anyway. It’s owned by members of the village but still sells premium lagers, which is good.
Booked a table at our parent's favourite restaurant The Stag after their internment today. It didn't disappoint. The food was as good as I've eaten in a very long time and the service was even better. We had a lovely family lunch and can't wait to return. Thankyou especially to our young server, nothing was too much trouble. A real gem especially when sitting in their lovely garden.
Had a lovely Sunday roast dinner here and hoping to go back to try more of the menu. Very impressed! It was more expensive than I expected but the quality was worth it.
I went here with a friend to enjoy good food and for quality time. The staff were attentive when we arrived and showed us our table promptly. We both ordered some mocktails which were delicious.
The food we ordered, the portion sizes are just right, they aren't massive and they aren't tiny and each dish was delicious.
We decided to share the dessert, which takes 30 minutes but we think it's worth the wait. I can't wait to return later on in the year or potentially try one of their Sunday Roasts
