About This Pub

Oh, The Shire Horse is one of those pubs that just has that special something, doesn't it? You step inside and it's all about the warm, friendly faces behind the bar – they're dead welcoming and make you feel like part of the crowd straight away. The live music and events, like bands or open mic nights, add a real buzz and keep things entertaining, while the beers are always spot on, with a good range that's well worth trying. It's got this lovely, cosy charm with a real fire going, ideal for a relaxed catch-up with friends. But, to be fair, not everyone's chatting about the food, so it might not be the place to go for a hearty meal, and the operating hours can look a bit muddled if you're planning ahead. Still, it's a solid spot for a good night out – I'd say give it a go if you're after a proper, down-to-earth pub experience in Kettering.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's got a fantastic atmosphere with live music, bands, and events like open mic nights that really liven things up.
  • The beers are spot on – tasty, well-kept, and with a great selection to choose from.
  • Such a cosy, quaint spot with an olde worlde vibe and a real fire, perfect for settling in with mates on a chilly evening.
Cons
  • Not many folks have much to say about the food, so it might not be the main draw or could be a bit inconsistent.
  • The operating hours listed seem a tad confusing, which could leave you scratching your head about when to pop by.
  • Their website's playing up and isn't easy to access, which is a pity if you're trying to get the lowdown beforehand.

Very nice cosy pub with friendly staff, just had drinks so can't comment on food. Had an open mic singing night while there and that was fun to listen to. Beer we had was tasty and well kept, will visit again.
