About This Pub

Ah, The Rising Sun – it's one of those unassuming pubs in Kettering that grows on you once you're inside. From what I've gathered from the reviews and a quick look at their site, it's got that warm, community spirit going for it, with staff who genuinely make an effort to chat and help out, like when they went above and beyond for a visitor from Newcastle. The drinks deals are spot on for keeping things affordable, and it's brilliant for catching live sports or having a game of pool in the beer garden on a nice day. But, let's be honest, it's not always buzzing; some evenings it can feel a touch quiet, which might not hit the spot if you're in the mood for a proper lively session. The ale selection isn't the most extensive either, so if you're after a wide range, you might need to look elsewhere. Overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed catch-up with mates, especially if you appreciate a clean, welcoming spot without the frills – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, as the positives definitely outweigh the minor niggles.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, always going out of their way to make you feel welcome, which really adds to the cosy community feel.
  • It's got great value drinks and offers, making it an affordable spot for a pint or two without breaking the bank.
  • They show live sports like football and rugby, plus there's a pool table and even a beer garden for those sunny days when you fancy a bit of fresh air.
  • The place is clean and well-maintained, with tidy toilets and a welcoming interior that's bigger than it looks from the outside.
Cons
  • It can feel a bit lacking in atmosphere on quieter nights, especially if it's not busy, which might disappoint if you're after a lively buzz.
  • The selection of draught ales is a tad limited, so if you're a real ale enthusiast, you might not find as many options as you'd hope.
  • From the outside, it doesn't look all that inviting, which could put some folks off before they even step inside.

Excellent polite and attentive staff very good prices. Toilets clean and modern. Bars the same, patrons friendly and helpfull. It is not a large pub but has a pool table and screens, plenty of, were showing snooker.

Very good experience. Perhaps a little limited on draught ales, but still good pint or two of Doom Bar. Barman was friendly, chatty and made us feel welcome. Excellent pool table at 50p per game, with good cues, surface and balls. After leaving the dismal Wayfarers down the street earlier, this was a far better experience. Will be back!
