About This Pub

You know, chatting about The Ship feels like recommending a hidden gem down by the coast – it's got that proper pub charm without any pretence. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the food is spot on; people rave about the fish and chips or those massive homemade Yorkshire puddings with the Sunday roasts, and it's all served up with portions that make you feel you've got your money's worth. The staff really shine too – they're attentive and go out of their way to make sure everyone's happy, which is especially nice if you're with the family, as there's a little play area to keep the little ones entertained. It's moderately priced, so you won't feel short-changed, and the clean, cosy atmosphere makes it ideal for a relaxed meal after a walk on the beach. On the downside, it's a bit of a faff without a website; you might struggle to look up the menu or nab a table in advance, and from one review, it sounds like booking for busier times could be hit or miss. All in all, if you're in the area, I'd say give it a go – it's got that feel-good factor that makes a pub visit memorable, but just keep in mind it might not be the most tech-savvy spot out there.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely brilliant – think delicious fish and chips, mouthwatering ribs, and fantastic Sunday roasts with generous portions that leave you feeling well satisfied.
  • Service is top-notch; the staff are incredibly attentive and friendly, making everyone feel welcome, especially families with kids.
  • It's a family-friendly spot with a small play area for children, perfect for a relaxed outing near the seaside.
  • Great value for money, with hearty meals at a moderate price that won't break the bank.
  • The atmosphere is clean, pleasant, and welcoming, making it a lovely place to pop in for a meal or a drink.
Cons
  • No website or online presence makes it a bit tricky to check the menu or book ahead, which could be frustrating if you're planning a visit.
  • There might be some hitches with booking, as one person mentioned trying to sort an evening slot but it didn't quite work out, suggesting it could get busy.
  • With all the high praise, it does seem like it might not suit everyone if you're after something more modern or with more online options.

Really enjoyed our dinner at The Ship, the service was excellent and the server was great with our kids. There's a small play area for children too. We were staying nearby the seaside and it's well worth the short walk from the beach to eat at this restaurant

After hearing nothing but good things, we booked up. All I can say is we were not disappointed. We were greated by the lovely Donna who could not have been more attentive, the restaurant was lovely and clean and really nicely presented. The food.. wow! The best Ribs I've ever eaten. Very good quality food and very reasonable prices. We can't wait to return to try the rest of the menu 😋.

Had a very nice lunch here yesterday, we had the fish and chips which were excellent. Service was also very good, all served in a clean and pleasant atmosphere. One question we did not ask though was, is there a differing menu for dinner and lunch? Attempted to book again for early evening but they don’t serve food in the evenings it’s believed. Not sure why thats not made public. Been back twice since this initial review and excellent both times. Had Sunday lunch which was exactly as stated in the summary and also had another fish and chip lunch, and that was very good too.

Our first visit the The Ship, there were 4 adults and 2 children in our group. We were allocated a nice big table in the spacious restaurant area. The Sunday roast dinners were fantastic, well cooked meat, potatoes and vegetables topped off with a massive home made Yorkshire pudding. The kids meals were great, very good sized portions which they both really enjoyed. The dessert selection was a little limited but all very tasty. The team were friendly, cheerful and helpful, the service was efficient and attentive. All round this was a great experience. Well done!
