About This Pub
Ah, The Salutation – it's one of those pubs that just warms you up the moment you step inside, with its rich history and that inviting vintage decor that makes you feel right at home. I've got to say, the beer selection is spot on; they're proudly serving up some brilliant brews from Bollington Brewing, like their golden bitter and pale ales, which are absolute winners for anyone who loves a quality pint. Throw in the hidden beer garden for those balmy evenings, and the regular events like folk music on Mondays or a fresh take on the classic pub quiz, and you've got a place that's perfect for catching up with mates over a drink. On the flip side, it can be a tad subdued during the day, especially around lunchtime, so if you're hoping for a lively buzz straight away, you might need to time your visit for the evenings. And while the pub itself is a gem, the nearby construction does take a bit of the edge off the overall setting. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed night out – honest, it's got that balance of old-school charm and good vibes that keeps you coming back.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
Fantastic selection of craft beers and ales, especially from Bollington Brewing – perfect for those who appreciate a good pint.
-
Cozy vintage decor that creates a really welcoming and homely atmosphere, making it feel like a proper traditional pub.
-
Lovely hidden beer garden that's ideal for a relaxing drink outdoors on a sunny day.
-
Friendly staff and a great lineup of events like live music sessions and pub quizzes, which add to the lively vibe on certain nights.
Cons
-
It can be a bit quiet during the daytime, particularly at lunchtime, so it might not always feel buzzing if you're after a more energetic crowd.
-
Surrounded by some recent construction in the area, which could slightly detract from the historic charm and make the surroundings feel less picturesque.

This was my favorite pub to sneak to for an after work pint. They have a good craft beer selection and the decor of the pub itself is cozy and pleasant. As an added plus, there is a lovely little beer garden out back too. I highly recommend this place.
Fantastic pub. Friendly staff, lovely atmosphere, great selection of ales and tasty food. Five stars all the way. And The Smiths on the Jukebox.
Beautiful pub dwarfed alas by 'recent' construction. Still, well worth a visit with 5 cask ales on when I called. Very quiet for lunchtime though ..
Very good pub owned by Manchester Metropolitan University and run by the student union. The pub is a tap for the Bollington Brewery and had five cask beers - and 1 cider - on handpump when I visited. Lots of outdoor seating most of it covered.

The Salutation was a wonderful place to end my nostalgic stroll around the campus. The pub is in great condition & so is the range of Bollington cask ales.
Well done Dermot! Looking forward to another visit in september & listening to some more of your Mcr tales!
