About This Pub
Ah, The Royal Oak – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot, especially if you're in Twickenham and fancy a proper meal with a pint. I've got to say, the new owners have really turned things around; the food's become a standout, with rave reviews on the burgers and fish and chips that are spot on for flavour and generosity. The staff are an absolute delight, making you feel right at home, whether you're popping in for a quick drink or booking for a big group during a rugby match – the atmosphere gets properly electric then. On the flip side, it's not all perfect; a couple of folks mentioned the roast potatoes needing a bit more crisp, and the bar doesn't open until 4pm on Mondays, which might cramp your style if you're after an early session. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for a good night out – honest, welcoming, and with that community feel that makes you want to come back. If you're heading that way, give it a go and see for yourself; it's got that balance of fun and reliability that we all appreciate in a local haunt.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely brilliant – think tender, flavour-packed meats, perfect burgers, and top-notch fish and chips that leave you wanting more.
-
Service is spot on; the team is super friendly and welcoming, even going the extra mile like whipping up a custom cocktail.
-
It's got a buzzing atmosphere, especially for events like rugby matches or pub quizzes, making it a great spot to catch up with mates.
-
Under the new ownership, they've really upped their game, with generous portions and well-priced options that feel like real value.
-
Plenty of drink choices and a solid menu variety, including kids' options and Sunday roasts, so it's versatile for different occasions.
Cons
-
Some dishes could use a bit of fine-tuning, like the roast potatoes that were a tad too big and not as crispy as they'd ideally be.
-
Opening hours might be a bit limited on Mondays, starting late at 4pm, which could be a downer if you're looking for an early pint.
-
While most experiences are positive, there was a mention of something that nearly dropped the rating, though it wasn't specified – always worth checking on the day.

Had a full meal at The Royal Oak in Twickenham and was genuinely impressed. The food was excellent, especially the meat - packed with flavour, tender and clearly high quality. Portions were generous, and everything was cooked properly. Service was spot on, they even made a custom cocktail for me! Relaxed atmosphere in the afternoon. Top of the list for me when it comes to local places.Highly recommend. ✅
They changed the ownership recently and the food has been elevated to a fantastic standard. Super recommend the burger, it’s perfect. Fish and chips also 10/10. Well priced.
We booked a table for twelve mixed rugby fans (Jocks ,English and kiwi) to watch the Rugby old firm battle , England Scotland match at Twickenham on Saturday 22nd February. We were warmly greeted by Dan and his very friendly and helpful team . The atmosphere was buzzing and full of excitement and trepidation for the match ahead. Although our beloved Scotland lost by one point the defeat was smoothed over by the fabulous friendly clientele and the drink flowed on served up by the Dan and the gang behind the bar .
A great afternoon and evening that we will remember for all the right reasons .
Thank You Dan and team for making our visit so enjoyable. See you for the next one 👍🏴
Overall, it was a nice experience with lots of choice but there are two things to mention. Firstly, the size of the roast potatoes were too big and in my view should be half a size and have a crispy context to them. The second is what made this five style of you go down to a three star review is that we went to the bar and ordered the food when my wife told me how much it cost. It looked too much to me so we asked for a receipt and it showed they were charged somewhere in 12 / 1/2% gratuity but not only on the food but the drinks as well which meant we paid an extra £2 on top for buying and collecting our own drinks. which I think is unreasonable considering this is a pub not a restaurant. Which was Very disappointing and had we not asked for a receipt we never would’ve known. TIP ORDER DRINKS AND FOOD SEPARATELY AND SAVE 12.5%
An excellent pub to visit either before or after watching a game at Twickenham Stadium. The food is delicious and there is a great selection of drinks. The service was great and they can easily deal with the extra traffic generated on match days.
