About This Pub

Ah, The Bear Tavern, tucked away on York Street in Twickenham – it's one of those local spots that's trying to be the heart of the community, you know? I have to say, they've nailed the basics with a good selection of drinks at fair prices and plenty of entertainment options like pool and live sports, which makes it a decent choice for a relaxed afternoon or evening with friends. The fact that it's accessible and welcomes dogs adds a nice touch, making it feel welcoming for all sorts. On the flip side, though, from the chats I've seen, the vibe can be a bit underwhelming – it's not always buzzing with that warm pub chatter, and there are stories of the management being a bit short with folks, especially if you've got kids in tow or just want to enjoy a game of pool without hassle. Plus, those bright lights and external noise complaints might make it less ideal for a cosy night in. All in all, it's worth swinging by if you're in the area and fancy a pint, but maybe keep expectations in check and head elsewhere if you're after something more lively.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The drink offers are spot on – they've got a cracking range of beers, lagers, and even some great deals that make it easy on the wallet, especially if you're after something refreshing on a summer evening.
  • It's got all the classic pub vibes with things like a pool table, darts board, and HD screens showing live sports, which is perfect for a casual get-together or catching the footie with mates.
  • They're pretty inclusive too, with wheelchair access, Wi-Fi, and it's dog-friendly, so you can pop in with your furry friend without any fuss.
Cons
  • The atmosphere can be a bit lacking; from what I've heard, it sometimes feels more like a quiet spot than a lively pub, which might disappoint if you're after that buzzing energy.
  • Management seems to have a few rough edges – there've been tales of them being a tad unwelcoming, especially with families or groups, which could put a damper on your visit.
  • Noise issues from outside, like early morning alarms, have upset locals, and inside, the bright lights don't make for the coziest setting, more functional than relaxing really.

Went there today. Poor pub, absolutely no atmosphere and a massive disappointment. Hopefully it’ll close down sooner or later and something better will spring up in its place.

Management at this place is an absolute joke - we went there with a group of children, having just finished a party at the Cheeky Chops play cafe across the road. The management were bizarrely rude, and said they didn't want the kids making noise, then requested we leave because a child was running around.... Off we went and took our business elsewhere Twickenham is a lovely place with lots of families - If this place doesn't replace management then I fear it's destined for the scrapheap. Also worth noting that, as a sports pub destination - the vibe here was very dead - With great options nearby like the Eel Pie, or Cabbage Patch. This place is not going to last very long!

This is already the third morning when The their alarm (which is located on the street) goes on for an hour at around 7 am very very very laud.I live very close and we can’t sleep on the third or fourth day . why can’t they solve an issue what is disturbing hundreds of people in the neighbourhood? Lovely neighbour, thanks for being here

The drinks are very reasonable and there are several shots on offer, as a result this bar is aimed at Gen Z. There is a pool table and darts board so you can play while you drink. Plenty of seating. One thing I did notice is that the lights were really bright, so not my first choice for a cosy feeling but great for efficient staff and inexpensive drinks.

I went to Bear Tavern with my friends with the idea to play some pool. Me and my friend got there any hour early before everyone else. A guy had been playing on the pool table for a good hour! When my friends showed up we went over and put the pound on the table to show we were next. After the guy played three or more games I went over to ask if we can take our turn. Once we started playing, not very well to be fair, the guy kept commenting on our game and saying things that were making us uncomfortable. After we told him to stop, he proceeded to keep harassing us and telling us we were taking too long. Then the manager came over and very rudely told us to hurry up and went back to his seat and continued to watch this man harass us while we were playing. We didn’t end up finishing the game. I know that we didn’t play as quick as everyone else, however we paid to play like everyone else, and deserved to play our game without any trouble from anyone. They didn’t make us feel very welcomed and would not recommend for a casual night out.
