About This Pub
Ah, The Royal Oak – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a breath of fresh air in Bristol, you know? From the moment you step in, the team really pulls out all the stops with their top-notch service; they're chatty, efficient, and make you feel like you're part of the furniture, which is just lovely for a casual catch-up with friends. The food's another winner – think hearty British classics and gastro twists made with the best local produce, and don't even get me started on those Sunday roasts; they're proper comforting and might just be the best around. Plus, the drinks menu is spot on, with a great range of ales, ciders, and more to suit any mood, and it's brilliant for catching the footie on the screens. On the flip side, it does get mobbed sometimes, especially on weekends, so you might have to queue for a table or rely on that walk-in policy, which isn't ideal if you're after something more planned. And the hours can wrap up earlier than you'd hope on certain days, so it's worth checking before you head out. All in all, it's a solid spot that does community pubs proud – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, but maybe pop in early to snag a seat and enjoy the buzz without the rush.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely brilliant – they're friendly, attentive, and go out of their way to make you feel welcome, just like chatting with old mates behind the bar.
-
The food is a real treat, especially those Sunday roasts; they're packed with flavour using fresh, local ingredients, and it's easy to see why they're a highlight in Bristol.
-
You've got a cracking selection of drinks on offer, from perfectly poured cask ales and local ciders to craft beers and cocktails, so there's something for every taste.
-
The atmosphere is spot on, with stylish, cosy spaces across three floors, perfect for a relaxed pint, watching the latest sports on multiple screens, or even hosting a private do.
-
It's flexible for all sorts of occasions, whether you're popping in for a quick drink or booking a space for events, making it a versatile spot for a good time.
Cons
-
It can get pretty busy at peak times, so you might end up waiting for a table if you haven't planned ahead, which can put a dampener on spontaneous visits.
-
As it's mostly walk-in, first-come-first-served, it might not always suit if you're after a guaranteed spot, especially on those bustling weekends.
-
The operating hours vary a bit and can feel a tad early on some days, so if you're hoping for a late-night session, it might wrap up sooner than you'd like.

Alex the owner always make you feel special. Max the young bar staff / waiter was superb. The Sunday roast has got to be one of the best in Bristol. Big up the chef ❤️
Such incredible service for a pub! Truly the staff were on it and were constantly checking in on us!! Food was great as well!
One the best indoor pub experience in Bristol ! We had lunch here after visiting the Clifton Bridge and it was perfect : nice choice of ales or ciders and delicious meals (pork and leek sausages for me, steak frites for my partner) to enjoy inside a beautiful wooden interior. And the lad in charge that day was very very friendly and made our lunch a wonderful time 🙏

The person on shift (assuming the manager) could not have been more accommodating. We turned up 10 mins before they opened. Could have just said they were not open yet but was absolutely happy to serve us drinks and have a chat.
Clearly they were pretty fully booked but went out of his way to squeeze us in for a Sunday roast.
The food was fantastic. Each component had so much flavour and was clearly super fresh. The beef a tad too rare but we were early and first off the line. Was still very tender and really tasty.
Spuds were sensational!
Yorkshire was massive.
£18 in Clifton at that quality with that service is an absolute must!
If there was a way to put service upto ten I would insist on it. Never seen another pub in England put together such an easy way to serve people, either at the bar or if you want another beer and there's staff in passing the will get it and stick a tab on for you.
Great atmosphere, really accommodating and lovely staff
