About This Pub
Ah, The Albion – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper treat when you step inside, tucked away in Clifton with its charming decor and those inviting fireplaces that make even a rainy day in Bristol feel snug. I've heard from mates that the food is a real winner, with their award-winning Sunday lunches stealing the show – think generous plates of local produce and roasts that are packed with flavour, plus a solid range of drinks to wash it all down. The service usually hits the mark too, with staff who are helpful and create that easy-going pub atmosphere we all love. But, to keep it real, there are times when things slow down a bit, especially if it's busy, and you might find the odd dish doesn't quite live up to the hype, like a piece of beef that's a touch chewy. Plus, with it being a bit on the expensive side, it's not the place for a quick, cheap pint – but if you're up for a special evening or a weekend roast, it's well worth it for the overall experience. All in all, it's a gem that balances tradition with a modern twist, and I'd say give it a go if you're in the area; just manage your expectations for the finer details.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely spot on, especially their Sunday roasts – think succulent meats, generous portions, and flavours that really hit the spot.
-
The atmosphere is so cosy and welcoming, with roaring wood-burners and stylish decor that makes you want to linger over a pint or two.
-
Service is generally top-notch; the staff are friendly and attentive without being over the top, making for a relaxed visit.
-
They've got a great selection of drinks and special events like Christmas menus or graduation dinners, perfect for a proper get-together.
Cons
-
Service can drag a bit during peak times, so if you're in a rush, it might not be ideal.
-
Some dishes fall short occasionally, like the beef being a tad tough in a roast, which is a shame when the rest is so good.
-
It's on the pricey side, so you might want to save it for when you're feeling like splashing out rather than a casual night.

Came with my friends for a roast and the portions were large and the food yummy. My one critique would be the beef was a bit tough and the service quite slow. The sides were excellent and everything was swimming in a generous amount of gravy. Would still say I was happy with the meal. Normally don’t enjoy a bloody mary, but it was very tasty and refreshing here so I am a convert!
The lamb shank on the sunday roast menu is an absolute must-try. Just look at the beauty. Fall-off the bone tender, perfect amount of gravy, gorgeous roast potatoes and a balanced accompaniment of veg. I did go with friends who did not have the appetite for a whole roast and who were disappointed to find that they did not serve any other menu on Sundays though - they went elsewhere. Just something to keep in mind if eating here.
If you're looking to get a traditional style English dinner while experiencing the English Pub vibes, than the Albion will satisfy those cravings!
For dinner, I had the pub burger, the beef pie, a side salad, and the seasonable vegetables. Everything really tasty and surely worth a visit if you find yourself in Bristol!
Had a great Sunday lunch at The Albion with friends. The roast was delicious, generously portioned, and beautifully presented. The service was friendly, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming.
It’s clear the new manager has really turned things around, which is great to see for the local community. Plus, the beer selection is excellent!
Definitely a great spot for a meal out - would recommend!
Nice atmosphere with two fireplaces we sat next to the fire on a cold day and had a couple of pints and steak for lunch was delicious. Probably the best pepper sauce I have ever had, made with green soft pepper corns 👌
Staff are very attentive and friendly and were very helpful and welcoming.
