About This Pub

So, let me tell you about The Royal Oak – it's one of those classic pubs in Stockport that just feels like a proper local gem. From what I've gathered from folks who've been there, the staff are absolute legends, always on hand with a smile and a helpful chat, which really sets the tone for a relaxed evening. The drinks deals are spot on too; you can get a pint for a song, making it ideal if you're just popping in for a casual catch-up without breaking the bank. And if you're into your sports, it's brilliant – they've got all the big matches on with TNT and Sky Sports, plus an outside area that's perfect for soaking up the sun on a good day. That community feel shines through, with Wi-Fi and a welcoming buzz that makes it easy to settle in. On the other hand, it's not without its downsides; service can drag a bit when things get hectic, and there have been times when they've had to use plastic glasses due to kit issues, which takes away from that authentic pub charm. Still, for what it is – a straightforward, affordable spot – it's got plenty going for it, and I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're after a no-nonsense pint and good company.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and always ready with a warm welcome, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • Drinks are brilliantly affordable, like that £3.30 pint of Guinness – perfect for a budget-friendly night out without skimping on the fun.
  • It's a top spot for watching live sports, with TNT and Sky Sports on the screens, so you can catch all the football, rugby, or horse racing action.
  • The outside area is a lovely touch for when the weather's nice, giving you a bit of fresh air while you chat with mates.
  • It's got that real community vibe, with Wi-Fi and a welcoming atmosphere that makes it feel like a proper local hangout.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit on the slow side at times, especially when it's busy, so you might need to factor in a wait for your round.
  • They've had issues like using plastic glasses when the dishwasher's broken, which isn't quite the traditional pub experience you'd hope for.
  • It's more of a no-frills, inexpensive boozer, so if you're after something a tad more upscale or polished, it might not quite hit the spot.

It’s not my favourite place to drink in but at £3.30 for a pint of Guinness, it’s what you pay for… My Guinness was in a plastic due to the dishwasher being broken. Never had this at a pub before lol Service can also be especially slow but it’s a cheap boozer so make of that what you will They’ve since adopted a formerly stray cat which gives this place more charm though
