About This Pub
Ah, The Royal Oak in Wigan – it's one of those pubs that just draws you in for a proper good time. From the reviews I've had a look at, it's clear that the atmosphere is a real winner, with live music on Saturdays creating that buzz that makes evenings memorable, and the beer garden is a gem, especially with those heated spots for when the weather turns. The staff go above and beyond, being so welcoming and attentive that it feels like catching up with old friends. Plus, the pints are spot on, and things like the burgers and breakfasts get high praise for being tasty and filling. But let's be honest, it's not perfect – the menu's a tad limited, which might leave you wanting more options if you're in the mood for something specific, and a few have noted that the afternoon tea sweets like scones and cheesecake didn't quite live up to expectations. Overall, with such positive feedback from the crowd, I'd say it's well worth popping in for a pint or a meal; just keep those little niggles in mind, and you'll likely have a brilliant time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is absolutely spot on, with live music that really gets the crowd going and a spacious beer garden that's perfect for a sunny afternoon or even with those heated booths for cosier evenings.
-
Staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in – shout out to the likes of Ugna for that personal touch.
-
They've got a great selection of pints on draught, and the food hits the mark with tasty options like excellent burgers and amazing breakfasts that leave you satisfied.
-
It's in a central spot in Wigan, with clean facilities and a welcoming vibe that's ideal for a quick bite or a relaxed drink with mates.
Cons
-
The menu is a bit on the small side, so if you're after a wide range of choices, you might find it lacking for a proper meal.
-
Some of the food items, like the scones and cheesecake in the afternoon tea, haven't impressed everyone – a couple of folks mentioned them being dry or just not quite right.

Fantastic place for a chill drink, had some great live music on Saturday with a great atmosphere. Good pints on draught and a spacious beer garden with plenty heated booths around.
Had lunch with a friend, burger was excellent! Then had lovely afternoon in the beer garden enjoying the sunshine. Had fantastic service by Ugna (apologies if I remember her name incorrectly) she was very attentive and friendly. Thank you very much
Small menu, okay for quick bite.
Nice pub with nice staff. Beer Garden is Great, especially for a central town pub
One of the popular drinking holes in Wigan.
Back in the day, Royal Oak would be the last pub in Wigan Lane for the pub crawl before hitting the town. Not sure if this tradition is still active.
Or have we evolved to drink coloured gins?
They call it progress.
Very friendly, pleasant and helpful staff.
Would highly recommend.
Had afternoon tea. We didn't enjoy the cheesecake and the scones are dry but otherwise it was good. Definitely worth the price. Clean toilets and nice atmosphere.
Their breakfast is amazing though.
