About This Pub
Ah, The Colliers Arms in Aspull is one of those tucked-away spots that really pulls you in with its old-school appeal – think a 16th-century building that's stayed cool and characterful over the years. I love how they've nailed the beer side of things, with those top-quality cask ales from Escape Brewery right on tap; it's a proper nod to the local scene and makes for a satisfying sip or two. The atmosphere is spot on too, especially on a chilly evening by the open fire, and it's clear the team go out of their way to make everyone feel at home, whether you're popping in for a quiz night or just a quiet chat. It's got that community feel that's so hard to find these days. On the downside, if sours aren't your thing, you might find the drinks menu a bit one-note, and some have mentioned it feels a touch pretentious, like it's putting on airs. Plus, with doors not opening until the afternoon, it's not the place for a lunchtime tipple. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed night out in Wigan, as long as you go in with the right expectations – I'd say give it a try if you're after an authentic, no-fuss pub experience.

Cons
-
The beer selection leans heavily towards sours, which might not suit everyone's taste and could leave some folks wanting more variety.

It can come across as a bit pretentious to certain visitors, with that air of trying a tad too hard to be authentic.
-
Opening hours typically start in the afternoon, so it's not ideal if you're after a quick drink earlier in the day.

A superb 16th C pub ~ built to stay cool when the ☀️ is shining. The fantastic locally brewed cask beers were a pleasure to drink. Well worth the minor detour from the Leeds Liverpool Canal.
Really nice little local pub. You can feel the history of the building all around you and nothing better than a real open fire whilst sat in a high backed arm chair. Sounds old I know but there is something to be said for nostalgia and a trip back in time to make the experience feel authentic, one which is lost in today's world of late night clubbing and cattle markets. It's a lovely space and nice to hear people laughing and communicating with each other at this friendly pub. A warm welcome greeted us as we walked in and we were served straight away. We only went for one drink but I intend to go back in the future. It would have been nice to see some historical pictures on the walls showing the buildings journey and past patrons, although it was a lovely touch to see a folder with the pubs history available for people to look and read through. I don't believe food is served as such but that's not always a bad thing as its nice to walk into a pub and smell beer rather than chips. Overall a lovely, oldy, worldy place.
OK pub, fair selection of beer, but mostly sour beer. Slightly pretentious. If you really sours though, you will live this place
A historic pub serving locally brewed beer. Great hospitality and atmosphere.
