About This Pub

Ah, The Royal George Tavern – it's one of those pubs that really warms your heart with its community spirit. From what I've gathered from the reviews and their website, it's all about that genuine, down-to-earth feel, where the team goes out of their way to make sure you're having a good time. The atmosphere is spot on for a casual catch-up or getting stuck into some live events like sports screenings or Friday night entertainment – and don't miss the karaoke if you're up for a singalong! Prices are reasonable too, so you won't break the bank for a decent pint. On the flip side, it's not perfect; there was that one review where someone had a rough experience and swore off the place, which makes me think there might be the odd off day or inconsistency that could put a dampener on things. Overall, though, with a solid 4.3 rating from folks who've enjoyed their visits, it's worth popping in if you're in the area – just go with an open mind and you'll likely have a right good time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The management and staff are absolutely top-notch – they're friendly, welcoming, and really make you feel at home, as if you're chatting with mates behind the bar.
  • It's got a brilliant atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed pint or joining in on community events like live entertainment and karaoke on Sundays – always a laugh!
  • Pints are nice and cheap, making it a great spot for a budget-friendly night out without skimping on quality.
  • Dog-friendly vibes mean you can bring your furry friend along, which adds to that cosy, community feel.
Cons
  • There have been a couple of off experiences reported, like one person deciding it was their last visit, which might hint at occasional inconsistencies in service or atmosphere.
  • The operating hours can vary a bit, especially on Sundays, so it's worth checking ahead to avoid disappointment if you're planning a late one.

This was not my first visit to this establishment, however it will be my last. This became the first public house I visited in the North, when my neighbor started to invite me to watch the football with him and his friend whenever NUFC were playing (2022). Jump forward to 2024 my schnauzer puppy of 1yr and a Jack Russell 8yr. Not there greatest selves tonight, a little tired and a tad talkative. However wanted to treat my friend to see his team play in his favorite pub. We go in and there are 6 adult patrons, bar man, 1 child. After we purchase our drinks, we are informed the child is allergic. (I am a conscious dog owner I would never have stayed if I was informed about anyone, especially a child being allergic). However they have taken our money and now informed us. I don't have money to be leaving drinks on a table and walking away, even if it's only two cola's. (Note: child was with the man who served us) 2 patrons left, nothing to do with the dogs, however they are getting round up by the child continuously trying to approach our location, and not listening when told not to. On one of the occasions that the boy does this 2 females come from upstairs. One of them makes a fleeting snide remark, which was sadly missed by myself, however her remark when she went back upstairs was 'need to keep them quiet' (note: not to me, just remarking as she passed). The child is now playing about provocatively intentionally really upsetting the schnauzer (don't worry the child is not the problem) I am trying to calm him and have already started making plans to leave. Now she comes back and says something. Dog friendly (maybe) tolerable (no). Sadly this is not a place where I would waste my money again. Luckily I know many more fantastic, dog friendly and extremely tolerant venues (even with a dozen more patrons spending in there venue). Enjoy the rant, I am not 100% innocent in the dogs I took with me today, however there handling of everything was just a joke. Save yourself the insult and embarrassment, walk another 39 meters.
