About This Pub

You know, when I think about The Royal, it's got this genuine, down-to-earth charm that really captures the spirit of a traditional pub. The karaoke scenes are an absolute riot, drawing in a crowd that's up for a singalong and making the place feel alive and sociable – it's one of those spots where you can just lose yourself in the moment. The locals are dead friendly too, always up for a chat, and with drinks at such reasonable prices, it's ideal for a relaxed catch-up with mates. Then there's the rustic decor with all those historical bits and bobs on the walls, which give it a unique, story-filled atmosphere that's a nice change from the more generic bars. On the downside, though, it's not without its flaws – the seating can be a bit worn and tatty, and there have been mentions of hygiene issues in the toilets that might make you think twice. Still, if you're after an honest, no-frills night out where the focus is on good company and a bit of fun rather than fancy trimmings, I'd say it's well worth popping in. Just go with an open mind, and you'll likely have a cracking time!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The karaoke nights are always buzzing and create a really fun, engaging atmosphere that gets everyone involved.
  • You'll find the locals incredibly welcoming, making it easy to feel right at home from the get-go.
  • Drinks are super affordable, which is brilliant for a casual night out without emptying your wallet.
  • The place has a charming rustic feel with loads of historical artefacts dotted around, adding a bit of character and history to your visit.
  • It stays open late, perfect for carrying on the evening after other spots have shut up shop.
Cons
  • It can feel a bit of a dive in places, with scruffy seats that aren't exactly inviting for a comfy sit-down.
  • Hygiene isn't always top-notch – I've heard tales of mess in the ladies' toilets, which might spoil the fun.
  • If karaoke isn't your thing, the vibe might come across as a tad overwhelming or not quite your cup of tea.
  • Overall, it's got that rough-around-the-edges quality that could put off anyone after something a bit more polished.

Very busy for late on a Thursday night. Obviously Karaoke is as popular as ever.

Bizarrely one of the better pubs in a Saturday night!! Start off in spoons, the no.8 bar, no.7 bar, the owl, then the Bank, try to avoid all the other dives until you reach the Royal!! Very lively until late, just in time to track back up to get a sicilanos special and Taxi home 🙂🍻🍕🍕
