About This Pub

Ah, let me tell you about the Princess Helena Arts Centre – it's this charming little bar tucked away in Hartlepool that's part pub and part creative hub, which I think is rather lovely. From what I've gathered from the reviews and their website, it's a place where you can pop in for a pint and end up staying for karaoke or a quiz night; the events lineup sounds like a right laugh, and folks have raved about the pool table and the well-kept beer that hits the spot just right. The staff come across as absolute stars, always ready with a smile and a chat, which really makes it feel like a community spot. On the flip side, though, there have been a few grumbles about dodgy opening times – imagine turning up for a quick drink only to find the door shut when it shouldn't be, which is a bit of a letdown. And let's be honest, with everything that's gone on in recent years, they might not always be at their best, but they're clearly trying their hardest. Overall, if you're after a laid-back evening with a creative twist, it's worth a visit, but maybe check ahead to avoid any surprises. I'd say it's a solid choice for us pub enthusiasts looking for that personal touch without the big-city fuss.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always going out of their way to make you feel right at home.
  • It's got a lovely vibe with events like karaoke, quizzes, and live music that really liven up the evenings.
  • You'll find a proper local gem here with things like a pool table and well-kept beer, perfect for a relaxed night out.
  • They're passionate about supporting local artists, which adds a creative touch and makes it more than just your average pub.
Cons
  • There have been times when the opening hours seem a bit unreliable, like when someone was turned away even though it was meant to be open.
  • It might struggle with external challenges, such as past issues from Brexit and Covid, which could affect the consistency of service.
  • With a mixed bag of reviews, it's not always hitting the mark for everyone, so you might have an off day.

I have just tried to walk in the door of this establishment for a quick pint, only to be told by a staff member that it is closed. Clearly it is not closed as the patrons are still drinking and it closes at midnight. Avoid. 🙂👍
