About This Pub

Ah, The Rose and Crown – it's one of those pubs that really pulls you in with its cosy, homely vibe, especially if you're into live music or fancy a game of darts or pool with mates. I've heard it's family-run, and the owner sounds like a absolute gem, always up for supporting local talent with events like VernFest, which folks have raved about for years. It's got that classic pub charm that makes you want to settle in for the evening. But, let's be straight, it's not all roses – there've been some nasty reports of safety concerns, like an incident at a music night that left someone in hospital, and the way it was dealt with just wasn't on. Plus, the staff can come across as a bit off-putting sometimes, and with no food options and gripes about the crowd or dodgy music, it might not be everyone's cup of tea. Still, with a solid 4.2 rating overall, it's worth a visit if you're in the area, just go in with your eyes open and maybe check the schedule first. All in all, it's got heart, but like any spot, it's got its rough edges too.

Pros and Cons

  • Opening hours seem a bit unreliable, with it closed on Mondays despite what you might expect.

my friend was spiked at a music event here, ended up hospitalised over night. Went to inform the manager however he was rude and dismissive, whilst we just wanted to make the pub aware of a serious situation that has imposed the safety of their customers. one of the barmaids was snapping her fingers and shouting in my friends face while she was unconscious and leaving the pub, she dealt with a very serious situation with such inadequacy and inconsideration. shame on the pub and their staff. We loved being able to support a family business intially however after their unprofessional behaviour I can see they have no concern for wellbeing of their customers.

Family owned. The owner is lovely and the environment is wonderful. Live music sometimes too. There is a dart board and pool table to enjoy as well.
