About This Pub

Ah, The Rohan Kanhai – it's one of those reliable Wetherspoon pubs that you can always count on for a good time without breaking the bank. From what I've gathered, the staff are absolute gems; they're polite, efficient, and really go the extra mile to make sure you're looked after, which is just lovely for popping in with mates. The food hits the spot too – think tasty burgers or a cracking cooked breakfast at prices that won't leave you stunned, and it's all served up in a spacious setting that's comfy enough for a relaxed catch-up. The atmosphere can be buzzing, especially when things like bingo are on, adding a bit of fun to the mix. But, on the flip side, it's not without its quirks; the place does feel a tad outdated in spots, with sticky carpets and worn decor that might put some off. It gets lively and loud when crowded, so if you're after a peaceful pint, you might want to time your visit right. Overall, it's a solid choice for a casual outing – affordable, friendly, and full of character, even if it could use a freshen-up here and there. I'd say give it a go if you're in Ashington; it's got that warm, community vibe that makes it worth a visit.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, always serving with a smile which really makes you feel welcome.
  • Food is solid and offers great value for money – think a hearty burger and pint for around £12, perfect for a casual bite.
  • It's spacious and comfortable, with a lively atmosphere that can get buzzing, especially during events like bingo.
  • Opens early and stays late, making it convenient for a quick breakfast or an evening out.
Cons
  • The decor feels a bit dated and worn, with mentions of sticky carpets that could do with a refresh.
  • It can get quite loud when it's busy, which might not suit everyone looking for a quiet chat.
  • Food is described as average at times, so if you're after something fancy, it might not hit the spot.
  • Some areas seem in need of a spruce-up, like the carpets, which detracts from the overall experience.

Had a spur of the moment visit today and what a lovely clean fresh pub. The carpet looked freshly layed and the chairs were clean and comfortable. We had a strips burger and a pint x2 and for around £12 you can't grumble. The service was fantastic and all the lads and lasses doing a fab job of keeping the tables cleared and constantly checking if customers were OK. I've been in a few spoons in my lifetime but this was by far the most attentive. Absolutely would recommend and will be back.

Very average food in a sticky carpet pub. The only good thing really was the service. The lady who served us was polite and still managed to bring service with a smile. Well done on helpful pleasant staff, working in rather challenging circumstances. Perhaps it would be better if the carpet was removed if the tacky stickiness can’t be cleaned and it’s more than likely that this is the case. However here, no carpet would be better than a carpet that gives you the ick with each gruesome step.

Good and busy Wetherspoon pub in town centre at end of the high street. It's spacious and comfortable. Food is good and great value, as are the drinks. Simple and basic...but well worth a visit, our cooked breakfast was excellent. Friendly staff serving at the bar, enjoyable visit.
