About This Pub

Ah, The Grand Station Lounge – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Ashington, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews and their website, it's got this warm, inviting vibe that's perfect if you're heading out with mates for a pint and some footie. The staff are genuinely lovely, always up for a laugh and making sure everyone's having a good time, which really makes the place shine. Sports fans will love it; they've got heaps of screens blasting everything from Premier League action to boxing, and they make a big fuss over Newcastle games, which is just brilliant if you're a supporter. Plus, the drinks menu is a winner – that massive selection of spirits and gins is something to get excited about, and their Sunday lunches sound like a proper treat, all hearty and homely. But let's be honest, it's not all perfect; it can be a bit on the quiet side sometimes, so if you're after a packed house every time, you might end up wishing for more of a crowd. A few folks have mentioned the drinks being pricey or the lager choices not being as extensive, and that downstairs spot could be a minor hassle if you're not in the mood for stairs. Overall, though, I'd say it's worth a visit for a relaxed night out – it's got that balance of fun events and solid grub, but just keep those little niggles in mind to set your expectations right.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff and owner are absolutely brilliant – always up for a chat and make you feel right at home, which really adds to the welcoming atmosphere.
  • It's a top spot for sports lovers, with loads of screens showing everything from Premier League matches to boxing, and they even have a massive screen for Newcastle United games.
  • The drink selection is fantastic, especially their huge range of spirits and gins – it's one of the best in Ashington, perfect for trying something new.
  • They've got some cracking events on offer, like live music and themed nights, which keep things exciting and make for memorable evenings out.
  • The food menu is spot on, with hearty pub classics, delicious Sunday roasts, and even afternoon tea options that hit the spot after a few drinks.
Cons
  • It can get a bit quiet at times, so if you're after a buzzing crowd every visit, you might find it a tad underwhelming on off nights.
  • Some drinks feel overpriced, particularly the draught lagers, where the selection isn't as varied as you'd hope for a pub of this size.
  • The location downstairs might not suit everyone, especially if you're popping in for a quick one and prefer something more accessible.
  • While the decor is quirky and fun, it doesn't always stand out from the crowd, so it might not wow you straight away like some other spots do.

Great decor looks good but very over priced and not a great selection of draught lagers. But the staff are nice and the owner is very friendly.

Only ever been for drinks. Can be a bit quiet, but people are usually friendly and drinks are reasonably priced.

Google says i was here but I just passed by on the other side of the street meaning that I have no complaints. Also nothing made it stand out from any of the other buildings around me (beyond Google asking for a review). My rating - an average building on the street.

Quirky hidden gem, a must vist establishment! Only negative is it's downstairs. Wonderfully decorated with an extensive gin collection and if gin is not your tipple then there's plenty of other choices including draft beers. The toilets are bright, clean, with a pleasant aroma and a lock on the door! While I did not try the food I plan to in the future, the menu has a great variety of meals to choose from. The barman and his partner are very friendly, welcoming people and have a good knowledge of local history. Which I very much enjoyed hearing about. Definitely by far the best bar/restaurant in Ashington.
