About This Pub
Ah, The Regent – it's one of those neighbourhood pubs that you pop into for a pint and end up staying longer because the staff are so chatty and the place has that cosy, refreshed feel to it. I've heard great things about their beers being spot on and reasonably priced, which is perfect if you're just after a relaxed evening with mates. The atmosphere is generally clean and inviting, and when the food hits the mark, like with their mixed grills, it's a proper treat. But let's be straight, it's not all roses; the grub can be a real letdown sometimes, with complaints about bland dishes, skimpy portions, and waits that drag on forever. Plus, you might find the seating a bit grubby or the music cranked up too high, making it tough to have a proper catch-up. Overall, it's worth a visit if you're in Kirkby in Ashfield and fancy a pint, but maybe stick to the drinks and keep expectations in check for the eats – that way, you're in for a balanced night out without any surprises.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are really friendly and welcoming, which makes you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
The pub itself has been nicely done up, with a clean and tidy vibe that gives it a fresh, inviting atmosphere.
-
You can get a good pint of beer at reasonable prices, which is always a win for a casual night out.
-
Some of the food options, like the mixed grills, can be pretty decent when they're on form.
Cons
-
The food quality is often disappointing, with things like chicken baskets and pies falling short and leaving you underwhelmed.
-
There can be long waits for your meal, which isn't ideal if you're with the kids or in a hurry.
-
The staff don't always pop over to check if everything's alright with your food, so you might end up sorting it yourself.
-
Little niggles like sticky booths or overly loud music can spoil the chat and make it less relaxing.

Recently visited to try out the new owners and new menu. The pub looks nice and has been nicely done up. The staff were friendly though they do not come to check your food is okay like many places do.
Sadly the food let them down tremendously. We ordered a mixed chicken basket, halloumi fries and a rump steak (on steak night). The chicken basket was okay, nothing special. The halloumi fries were crispy but oily, though were the nicest thing we ordered. The rump steak, ordered medium rare, came close to well done, was flat and cold, as were the peas and chips.
Although cheaper than other places in the area, we definitely won’t visit again.
Let's face it it's a drinkers pub! 40 quid for two chicken burgers and 2 pie n mash. Pies in a deal 2 for 15 quid. over 30 min wait kids starving .the chicken burgers looked okay. Bit skinny on the chips ala spoons is, But the kids enjoyed. The pie! christ! The best safe breaker in Ashfield would of struggled with these!! Clearly left too long hence the 30 min wait! I stuck my knife in and it came out looking like a boomerang such was the outer crust!! It's former life was possibly a meteorite rather than puff pastry!! Perhaps stick to a pint! It's not bad for that!
Great pub clean and tidy foods not bad most of the staff are polite and friendly fruit machines don’t seem to be the same since it was a Wetherspoons
Everything was alright after it has changed but someone was playing music (The Jacksons, Jess Glynn) out loud with the music videos on a large screen so I couldn’t chat properly with my family. I understand that the guy playing the music had good intentions and wanted to entertain his customers but it had the opposite effect. Thank you for trying to please us and thanks for the food!
Good beer at good prices & most of the time it's been absolutely fine & the mixed grills I normally have always been pretty good. But unfortunately I've also experienced some really poor ones, for instance the booths we've been sitting in have been wet & sticky & the staff have just ignored our complaints. The bad times tho including our last 2 visits when my m8 has ordered a steak & asked for it to be cooked medium, the same as me, but as u can see from the pics(that actually looked worse in real life), the meat was raw. Then when he complained to the staff they brought it bk & it looked as tho they'd not even put it bk on the grill, then it seemed as tho they were swerving us for the rest of our visit. But on the whole, I've mainly had reasonable food with good friendly service it's just a shame a few visits have been poor & let it down. So on the whole I'd give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️ as 8 times out of 10 it's been absolutely fine
