About This Pub

Ah, The Regal Moon, it's one of those classic Wetherspoon pubs that you can't help but appreciate for its no-nonsense approach to a good night out. I've got to say, the value for money is spot on; you'll find a brilliant range of drinks at prices that won't sting your wallet, and those daily meal deals make it easy to pair a pint with something tasty without spending a fortune. The interior's a real highlight too – those art deco touches add a bit of elegance that you don't always expect in a pub, making it feel like a step back in time in the best way. It's perfectly placed in the town centre, so it's ideal for popping in after a wander or meeting up with mates. On the flip side, though, it's not all smooth sailing; there have been some shocking hygiene issues reported, like items being left uncleaned despite complaints, which is enough to put anyone off their drink. And let's not gloss over the food – while it's generally affordable, some dishes, especially the steaks, have been described as downright disappointing, more like chewing on rubber than enjoying a proper meal. The vibe can get lively to the point of being overwhelming, with noise and the occasional dust-up, so if you're after a quiet evening, it might not be your first choice. All in all, it's a welcoming place with heaps of potential, but it's worth going in with your eyes open to those niggles – treat it right, and you'll likely have a cracking time, but don't expect everything to be flawless.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The drinks are always affordable and there's a fantastic selection of beers, lagers, wines, and spirits to choose from, making it a great spot for a casual catch-up.
  • They've got some cracking meal deals every day of the week, so you can grab a decent bite without breaking the bank.
  • The interior is rather charming, with lovely art deco features that give it a bit of character and history – it's nice to see that preserved.
  • It's right in the town centre, which makes it super convenient for a quick pint or a meal after wandering about.
Cons
  • There have been some hygiene slip-ups, like that awful incident with a used nappy left on a table for ages, which really puts a dampener on things.
  • Food quality can be hit or miss; some folks have had dreadful experiences with tough, tasteless steaks that you'd rather forget.
  • The atmosphere can get quite noisy and rowdy at times, with the odd scuffle breaking out, so it might not be the most relaxed setting.
  • Staff don't always handle complaints well, which can leave you feeling a bit ignored if something goes wrong.

Went in tonight there was a used nappy sat on the table whichwas ther from earlyafternoon until closing time . It was reported to staff several times abd staff refused to move the nappy. Several customers complained about it to the manager , who completely ignored the customers requests and instead decided not to serve a group of friends because he could smell cannabis. Although the perpetrator of the said joint admitted he had it he still refused to me and my friends because he had a grudge because we asked him several times to move the nappy and because he didn't like it he decided to stop serving us drinks. He is completely unprofessional and besides this the toilets stunk of stale urine which was also pointed out several times this manager is not fit for purpose and I won't be going back in while he is there. The arrogance and blatant disrespectful attitude is not the way to run a public house

“Wetherspoon has finally removed steak and mixed grills from the menu—and honestly, thank God. The steak I had was hands down the worst I’ve ever eaten: tough, tasteless, and closer to rubber than meat. It’s almost impressive it took this long to act after all the complaints. Bravo, I guess?”

The usual Wetherspoons offering - good value drinks and food. The interior is excellent, it's great to see they managed to keep some of the art deco features from the original building. The atmosphere is noisy - loud and plenty of fruity language. A scuffle broke out as we arrived and rumbled on for another hour or so with a few interventions from security and the police. Nobody seemed too concerned, in fact most of the locals took their drinks outside to watch. The nearby town hall and square are very much worth a look.

Just visited again after a few years away. Nothing much has changed, still a great selection of drinks and good quality freshly cooked food Great pub, great food and huge selection of beers 🍺, lagers, wines 🍷 and spirits. There are meal deals on each day of the week. Pay once and refill your coffee as many times as you want and now there are two self-service coffee machine's where you can choose from decaf, latte and black coffee ☕ etc. Seating outside at the front and back of the building. Try the breakfasts as there is a huge choice of different options. One of the busiest Spoons in the UK
