About This Pub

Ah, let me tell you about The Red Herring – it's one of those hidden gems in Great Yarmouth that really warms the cockles of your heart. From what I've gathered from the reviews and the buzz around it, this place shines with its top-notch real ales; folks rave about the selection and how well they're kept, making it a must-visit if you're partial to a proper pint. The atmosphere is just lovely – think friendly chats with locals and that welcoming feel that turns a quick stop into a proper evening out. And the staff? Well, Darren and the team come across as absolute stars, always up for a chat and making sure everyone feels at ease. It's got some nice extras too, like a pool table and jukebox, which add a bit of entertainment without making it feel too rowdy. On the flip side, it's a bit out of the way on a back street, so you might miss it if you're sticking to the busier spots, and being small, it could get a wee bit snug on busier nights. Still, with a solid 4.4 rating from plenty of happy visitors, I'd say it's well worth seeking out for a relaxed, affordable night – just pop in with an open mind and you're in for a treat!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The real ales are absolutely spot on – a fantastic selection that's well-kept and a real highlight for any ale enthusiast.
  • The atmosphere is so welcoming and cosy; you'll find friendly locals and a great vibe for chatting away the evening.
  • The staff, like Darren behind the bar, are lovely chaps who make you feel right at home with their warm hospitality.
  • It's got a pleasant interior with little touches like a pool table and jukebox, adding to the fun without overwhelming the space.
  • Being inexpensive means you can enjoy a proper pint without breaking the bank, which is always a winner for a casual night out.
Cons
  • It's tucked away on a back street, a bit off the main sea-front, so it might take some navigating if you're not familiar with the area.
  • The pub is on the smaller side, which can make it feel a tad cramped if it gets busy, especially on weekends.
  • With no website or online details easily available, it's a bit of a faff to check opening times or get in touch beforehand.
