About This Pub
Ah, The Red Bull – it's one of those pubs that really captures the heart of Cambridge, isn't it? I've got to say, the food's a real highlight; their pizzas are just brilliant, with that perfect dough and generous toppings, and at a fair price too, which makes it ideal for popping in after a wander around town. The drinks selection is spot on as well, with a good mix of ales and craft beers that go down a treat, especially out in the terrace garden if the weather's playing nice. It's super dog-friendly, so if you're out with your four-legged friend, you'll feel right at home. On the flip side, though, service can be a bit inconsistent – I've heard tales of staff overlooking folks, which is a shame when you're keen for a quick pint. And it does get busy, sometimes feeling a bit like a family gathering spot in the evenings, with the odd bit of awkwardness from other visitors getting territorial about seats. Overall, it's a solid spot for a relaxed catch-up, but maybe best visited on a quieter day to avoid any hiccups. If you're in the area, it's worth giving it a go for that great grub and atmosphere, just keep expectations balanced for a true pub experience.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The pizzas are absolutely spot on – lovely dough and tasty toppings, and they're not too pricey either, making it a brilliant choice for a casual meal with friends.
-
It's a welcoming spot with a friendly vibe, mixing locals and students, and being dog-friendly means you can bring your furry mate along for the fun.
-
They've got a great selection of ales, craft beers, gins, and spirits, perfect for enjoying in their cosy bar or terrace garden on a nice day.
Cons
-
Service can be hit or miss; some folks have mentioned being ignored by staff, even when it's not overly busy, which puts a bit of a dampener on things.
-
It can get a tad rowdy or feel like it's turned into a family hub in the evenings, with some reports of rude behaviour from other visitors, like squabbles over seats.
-
Prices are marked up a bit, and the kitchen might struggle if a big group shows up unexpectedly, so it might not be the smoothest experience every time.

Staff ignored me and served people behind me despite not being all that busy. Customer's are rude confronting people for sitting in "their" seats or talking about people as if they're not six feet away. Turns into a daycare centre at 5pm. Definitely not worth the marked up prices
Great pizza. Really nice dough and good toppings. Not too expensive either.
Kitchen tends to get a little overwhelmed when a large group descends without warning, but otherwise it's been a staple venue for those visiting Selwyn/Newnham for years, especially since the closure of the Hat & Feathers. If the car park is now open again (it was closed during COVID to allow for a gazebo) that's much more convenient. Staff are friendly and reasonably efficient.
Great pub! People are really friendly, food tastes very good. Mix with neighbourhood and students..
For a Monday, I was supper surprised at how busy it was!
My partner and I ordered the two for £15 pizzas, which where well needed. Both where very good, and well enjoyed amongst the rest of the revilers.
