About This Pub

Ah, The Rams Head in Longton, Preston – it's one of those pubs that really stands out for its hearty carvery and laid-back vibe, isn't it? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is a real highlight; they've got this brilliant selection that goes beyond the standard roast, with extras like burgers, tacos, and even curries to mix things up. It's dead affordable too, and the portions are generous enough to satisfy even the hungriest among us. The staff come across as genuinely friendly and chatty, which makes popping in for a meal or a pint feel like catching up with mates. It's also spot on for families, with solid options for the kids that keep everyone happy. On the downside, though, it's not all smooth sailing – a few folks have mentioned getting cold or undercooked dishes, which is a proper shame when you're looking forward to a good feed. There've been times when things like empty plates at the carvery or the loss of fun extras, like the chocolate fountain, have left people a tad disappointed, and recent reviews show it's not consistently hitting the mark. Still, with such a strong overall rating, I'd say it's worth giving it a go, especially on a quieter day or for that weekend carvery treat, just to weigh up for yourself. All in all, it's a solid spot with more highs than lows, but keep an eye out for those little niggles to make the most of your visit.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The carvery is absolutely brilliant, with a fantastic variety including burgers, tacos, Chinese dishes, and curries – something for everyone to enjoy.
  • The staff are so friendly and chatty, making the whole experience feel warm and welcoming.
  • Portions are massive and offer great value, especially at an inexpensive price point – you'll leave feeling well-fed without breaking the bank.
  • It's a family-friendly spot with decent kids' meals, perfect for a relaxed outing with the little ones.
Cons
  • Some meals have come out cold or undercooked, like that disappointing sausage that didn't hit the mark.
  • There can be inconsistencies, such as empty dishes or items running out, which might spoil the vibe on busier days.
  • A few features, like the chocolate fountain, have disappeared, leaving some visitors a bit let down compared to past visits.
  • Overall quality can vary, with recent feedback showing a mixed bag that doesn't always live up to the high rating.

I love this place, I go every weekend for their carvery. It's really good. Not just the usual carvery but also a load of extra selection like burgers, tacos, Chinese and curry available...... So definitely something for everyone. They also don't limit food to 1 plate, you can go back and grab more meat and veggies any time. Worth the visit because the price is incredibly reasonable too

Went here yesterday for mother's day. Absolutely fantastic from start to finish. We ordered the carvery and I've not seen a better selection of food. Starters even offered as part of the carvery. Everything was fresh and hot. The staff were friendly and chatty. The kids meals were good, possible improve the fish fingers to fish goujons. Looking at the set meals that were coming out the kitchen, they also looked really good and the portion sizes were huge. The menu was very extensive, the burger section particularly had a vast amount of options to choose from. Very reasonable prices and will definitely be going back.

Ordered the big Dog! I was expecting a nice hot dog, it was a large sausage that was pink in the middle and not cooked... And smelt like Frankenstein's foot! The chips sadly were triple dipped.. again in Frankenstein's oil ewww the lady that served us was actually nice and understanding. But the chef at this place needs to go! Everything is deep fat fried & dripping in slimey fat. OIL OVERLOAD... If they were giving this away i would not accept it. They say you get what you pay for but in this case sadly not. Hope this review helps people out dont waste ur hard earned cash on food like this

Came yesterday was very disappointing. The food was cold and the starters near the carvery had empty dishes and was also cold. The Gammon had no taste and kids were disappointed due to the chocolate fountain no longer being there. Been many times in the past and it was so good. Definitely gone down hill- we came as a family of 7 and won’t be coming again

The food here is great, very large portions and tasty, the chips are particularly good. I had fish and chips which is one of the biggest fish I've had. It also came with a slice of white bread and butter, but I'm not sure who could manage it all, it's huge. My friends had the Asian style fish and chips which was salmon in a soy sauce, which they enjoyed but I tried alittle bit and thought it wasn't spicey or sweet enough. The others had gammon and burger with cheese and bacon, I'm not sure which one it was but both enjoyed them. Needless to say that we were too full to have dessert. Great value for money. My only criticism is the inside, it definitely needs some money spending on it, it's very dated and alittle shabby. Hence only 4 star's.
