About This Pub
Ah, The Railway – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in London, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got this warm, inviting charm with its quaint decor and a smashing back garden that's ideal for soaking up the sun with mates over a pint. The food's a real highlight for most; think delicious starters like croquettes or hearty Sunday dinners that hit the spot every time. And let's not forget the events – comedy nights and event hires add a fun layer, making it more than just your average watering hole. On the flip side, it's not all perfect roses; a few folks have mentioned dodgy experiences, like ribs that were disappointingly dry or a salad that was a tad too oily and salty. Then there's the odd drink mishap, such as flat beer that didn't get much better with a swap, which suggests the team could do with a bit more polish on the service front. Overall, though, with a strong 4.4 rating from loads of reviews, it's clear this place does a lot right and is worth a punt if you're in the area – just keep expectations realistic and maybe check what's on the menu that day.

Always loved this pub - been coming here regularly for 18 years. The food has always been really excellent. However, a couple of weeks ago, we popped in for a meal, and I ordered the ribs. Frankly, they were pretty horrid and not a patch on the sainsburys ribs we had the previous weekend!! Very dry and hard (struggled to separate them with a knife) and were absolutely drowned in sauce - clearly smothered on top after being cooked, presumably to hide the crime a bit. About a third of it was totally inedible. I raised it discretely with the waiter and he said the manager would feed it back to the chef. That was it. No one seemed to care that much. The girl who brought pur food out had also rushed off without asking if we needed any condiments so I had to go to the bar to ask for mayo, which was then presented in a few plastic sachets not the usual dish. Such a shame as the food and service are normally always exceptional. Really hope it is a blip, but it put us off eating there again anytime soon :(
Popped in for Sunday dinner and honestly, the food was fantastic! We started with the croquettes and the sausage with black pudding roll—both were so tasty and a definite must-try. It’s one of those places that works for anything—whether you're after a quick bite, sharing a few plates with mates over drinks, or just want a really lovely dinner. The vibe is great and the food won’t disappoint. Highly recommend giving it a go!
I wanted to raise a quick concern about my recent visit. I was served a flat beer, and when I asked for a replacement, it seemed like the exact same glass was handed back to me with no improvement.
Mistakes happen, but this suggests the staff may need a bit more training on how to properly handle such requests and ensure quality service. I hope you’ll take this feedback onboard.
Always enjoy coming to the Railway. A really nice pub and friendly service. The comedy nights on Sundays are really good. This weekend I tried the kale salad as I wanted a healthier option. It was nice, though it was a little too salty and oily for me. I'd probably have it again, but would ask for there to be less salt and less oil dressing.
Despite being here for 13yrs, this was my first visit and I loved it! Love the quaint English decor and back garden.
The Tea Room is let out for events which wr had hired and the service was great!
Funnily enough a couple of days later, I went back there for a coffee because all the cafes were closed after 5pm and I had the best double espresso served locally.
Will be going back more often now. Better late than never!
