About This Pub

Ah, The Pump House – it's one of those classic Wetherspoon spots that really hits the mark for a laid-back outing. From the reviews, it's clear that the affordable prices are a big win; you can get a decent pint or a meal without worrying about the bill adding up too quickly, which is always a treat when you're out for a casual catch-up. I love how they've got a good range of beers and the flexibility to tweak your order, like swapping tomatoes for extra toast on a breakfast – it makes things feel thoughtful and accommodating. The atmosphere is spot on too; no blaring music or distracting screens means you can focus on the conversation, and it's kept nice and clean with some cool local history on the walls, giving it that community vibe. On the downside, though, a few folks have mentioned the food not always being served hot, so it might be best to keep expectations in check there or stick to drinks if you're not in the mood for a full meal. All in all, with that solid 4.1 rating, it's a welcoming place that does budget-friendly pubbing well, but it's not without its little niggles – just like any good local haunt.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Affordable prices that make it easy on the wallet, like getting a great pint for just over £2
  • A solid selection of beers and drinks, with options to sample before you buy
  • A relaxed and welcoming atmosphere without any loud music or screens, so you can actually chat properly
  • Flexible menu choices that let you swap items around, making meals feel personalised and inclusive
  • A clean space with interesting local history pictures, giving it a nice community feel
Cons
  • Food can sometimes arrive cold or not quite up to scratch, which might put a dampener on your meal
  • It might feel a bit straightforward or lacking in excitement if you're after a more vibrant spot

Good choice of beers, we didn't eat but people eating looked like they were enjoying the classic pub menu good. Like the atmosphere, no music, no screens so you can enjoy the company you are with.

Not from the area but know The Pumphouse was always a great place to visit with excellent food and drink, however on this occasion my food was when i say cold I mean cold not even luke warm, I went immediately and asked for it to be warmed up, they did however remake it, so thank you for that. But this should not happen, the food should be temperature checked by the chef before leaving the kitchen, it's definitely put me off eating at Wetherspoons.

Why pay double the price at other pub chains? Wetherspoons is now a community hub for adults of all ages & that's a good thing.

John is an enthusiastic member of the team. I enjoyed a very good real ale with a sample before I bought it. At £2.15, I found this great value for money. Very clean inside and an interesting array of pictures related to the history of the locality

Enjoyed my veggie breakfast this morning, instead of tomatoes I had an extra piece of toast, like the the fact they were totally flexible and said I could change any item with another so long it was on that particular meal. Very reasonable priced at just £4.50. Like the fact that tea or coffee is only £1,20 and you can have as many refills as you like, also you can do some shopping and come back say an hour latter and continue having free refills. I had Tea, Latte then finished off with a double decaf expresso. Nice outside seating area where you can watch the world go by. Plenty of indoor seats and it wasn't too overcrowded when I was their at 11.15am, Tuesday. There's plenty of parking available, I use the shoppers carpark which gives you free parking for up to 3 hours.
