About This Pub

Ah, The Prom Hotel – it's one of those places that really captures the essence of a seaside getaway in Great Yarmouth, with its prime spot on the Golden Mile making it ideal for a cheeky drink or a bite after a day by the sea. I have to say, the Mermaid Bar stands out as a proper gem; it's spacious, attracts a good crowd of locals, and serves up a cracking selection of drinks and meals that hit the spot, especially those Sunday roasts that are as hearty as they come. The rooms are generally a treat too, with comfy beds, sea views in some, and those nice little extras like tea-making facilities that make you feel right at home. But, let's be honest, it's not all smooth sailing – I've heard tales of maintenance issues, like loos that aren't quite fixed properly or spa baths that need a thorough scrub, which can leave you a bit disappointed if you're after that flawless four-star experience. The food can be a mixed bag as well; it's tasty when it's good, but sometimes it feels a tad ordinary, and if you're unlucky with hot water in your room, it might just take the edge off your stay. Overall, though, it's a friendly spot with heaps of potential, perfect for a casual get-together with mates, as long as you go in with realistic expectations and appreciate the charm of a traditional hotel bar.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The location is spot on, right in the heart of Great Yarmouth's Golden Mile, making it super convenient for seaside strolls, the pier, and nearby shops.
  • The rooms are generally spacious and comfortable, with some offering stunning sea views and little touches like French doors or balconies that really add to the charm.
  • The bar and bistro are highlights, with a well-stocked selection of drinks, a relaxed atmosphere, and delicious food options like those generous roasts and tasty cocktails that leave you feeling satisfied.
  • Staff are friendly and efficient, always ready to make you feel welcome, whether you're popping in for a quick drink or staying for a meal.
Cons
  • There have been some maintenance niggles, like issues with toilets not being properly secured or spa baths that could do with a good clean, which might put a dampener on things.
  • Hot water problems and the odd room that's not up to scratch could make for an uncomfortable stay, especially if you're expecting that four-star standard throughout.
  • Food is hit or miss; while some dishes are spot on, others come across as just ordinary, so it might not always live up to the hype for a special night out.
  • As it's a hotel with various functions, it can get busy with events, which might mean it's not always the quiet spot for a relaxed pint.

Toilet not secured to the wall, looked like someone had put sealant on it at least 3 times already and failed. The spa bath was dirty and hot water was almost non existent. Used to love staying here but it was not an enjoyable experience this time around.

This is a great hotel in the centre of Great Yarmouth, very conveniently situated for the pier, fun fair and shops. The room we had was spacious and we were lucky enough to have a sea view. We were with a large group but despite this the food was excellent. Served hot and very tasty. I had an accident while I was there and the staff were so helpful keeping my ice pack cold enough. The bar was well stocked and reasonably priced. We went out walking on most days until I had my accident. You can get to some great places from Great Yarmouth. We even saw all the seal pups at Winterton on Sea. Totally recommend.

Have had a recent weekend break, more than satisfactory. Good atmosphere and well stocked bar with excellent bar staff. Food was ordinary and edible, good portions. Staff again were friendly and efficient. My room 2nd floor ( with lift) was warm and inviting.. T-tray was replenished daily .. Would certainly recommend.

Did the cinema deal with family & friends. Really worth it as the food was delicious and such good portions too, we definitely left full!! Also had the best cocktail if you like strawberries, ‘seductive strawberry.’ Never had anything like it and so glad it’s still on the menu!! Used to go a lot back in 2016/2017, the staff were very friendly and couldn’t recommend that cocktail enough!! Definitely worth a visit! Children loved their food too and the games room! Also another thing noticed was on the way to the games room, they’re dog friendly so can sit with your pets too! Very clean and hygienic too and looked beautiful with all the Christmas decorations!
