About This Pub
Ah, The Port Mahon – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper gem in Oxford, you know? From the moment you step in, the atmosphere wraps around you like a warm hug; it's dog-friendly, which is brilliant if you're out with your pooch, and the whole place has this inviting, relaxed energy that's perfect for unwinding after a long day. The food really steals the show – we're talking mouthwatering British seasonal fare, with roasts that folks rave about and even a rotisserie chicken that's become a bit of a legend. Pair that with speedy, thoughtful service where the staff treat you like an old friend, and you've got a spot that's hard to beat for value, especially with those happy hour perks like £4 drinks and £5 Negronis that keep things affordable and fun. On the flip side, the wine list is quite compact, so if you're in the mood for something specific, it might not quite hit the mark, and the operating hours do look a bit confusing at times, which could throw a spanner in the works if you're planning ahead. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good night out – the positives far outweigh the niggles, and I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're after that authentic pub experience without any fuss.
Pros and Cons
Pros

-
The food is an absolute treat; think delicious British seasonal dishes, standout roasts, and even a legendary rotisserie chicken that's full of flavour and great value.
-
Service is spot on – the team is super friendly and attentive, always going the extra mile to make you feel right at home, like chatting with old mates behind the bar.
-
Happy hour deals are a winner, with £4 drinks from 4pm to 6pm on weekdays, and those famous £5 Negronis are a cheeky bargain you won't want to miss.
-
It's got a lovely beer garden and dining room that's perfect for soaking up the vibes, whether you're popping in for a pint or a proper meal.
Cons
-
The wine menu is a tad on the small side, though it's a bit different from the usual, so if you're after a wide selection, you might find it limiting.
-
Operating hours can seem a bit muddled from what's listed, which might leave you scratching your head about when to drop by, especially on Sundays.

Erynice atmosphere, dog friendly, and great food. Between us we had a good sample of the menu and it was all delicious. Service was fast and very friendly.
Port mahon was a lovely experience. I wanted somewhere that was good for elderly people and dog friendly. It was both. The food was very tasty and the service was so thoughtful and friendly. The staff went out of their way to help. Even providing a bowl of water for the dog. Five stars.
I stumbled across this pub as I have recently started working opposite. It is not an exaggeration to say that I was blown away by my experience here earlier today. The landlord, Jonathan, is super friendly without being over the top. The food and drinks are incredibly good value. I will definitely be going back. My new favourite pub in Oxford!
Had a delicious roast here last weekend, both the pork and vege options were fab, and the cauli cheese was OUT OF THIS WORLD! Service by Jonathan and the team was exceptional and is the real jewel in the crown of the Port Mahon. Can't wait to come and visit during the week and trying the a la carte menu (which also looked fab). Did I mention they do £5 negronis and drink the cask dry on Tuesdays? Get yourself down here, you won't be disappointed :)
Second Sunday Lunch at this recently refurbished pub. Had Beef and bone marrow pie and the wife had 28 day aged roast rump of beef, both so very tasty, the roasties nice and crisp and veg very well seasoned. Wine menu is small but different from the norm, had an orange wine last time, a primitivo this. Service was prompt and very friendly. Beef and bone marrow pie is available in the week apparently so may need to visit midweek soon. Long may it continue.
