About This Pub
Ah, The Half Moon in Oxford is one of those pubs that really pulls you in with its inviting atmosphere and that sense of community you don't find everywhere. From what I've gathered from folks who've popped in, the staff are often brilliant, always up for a laugh and making sure you're settled in nicely – it's like chatting with friends behind the bar. The live music nights are an absolute treat; picture yourself there on a Sunday, tapping your foot to some folk tunes that get the whole room buzzing. And with prices that won't break the bank, it's easy to while away the hours without a care. But, to be fair, it's not all rosy – there've been a few tales of a bartender being a bit offhand, which can throw a shadow over an otherwise cracking night. Still, for anyone keen on a proper pub experience in Oxford, it's worth a visit; just go in with an open mind and you'll likely come away with some fond memories.
Pros and Cons
Pros

-
Live music sessions, especially the folk nights, create a magical atmosphere that's perfect for a lively evening.
-
Prices are reasonable, so you can enjoy a few pints without worrying about the wallet.
-
It's open late into the night, ideal for those spontaneous gatherings that stretch on.
-
The cosy, unchanged decor and mixed crowd give it a nostalgic charm that's hard to beat.
Cons
-
There have been reports of the occasional rude bartender, which can leave a sour taste and spoil the fun.
-
It might feel a bit hit or miss with service on busier nights, as not every experience lives up to the hype.

I have never been able to stomach a Guinness until I've come in here!
Until only soon, I have only been on the booze in city center, but after seeing this gem, it's here or nowhere!
Lovely venue, friendly community & amazing staff - what more can you ask for!
Some nights there is folk music which is always good change from other Oxford pubs and sometime open mic nights!
The bartender was rude and made me feel very unwelcome. He even mocked me for being too energetic as I was ordering?! A very unpleasant experience which put a damper on my spirits for what was supposed to be a nice reunion with friends. I will not be coming again.
Went on a Sunday night where musicians could join in as long as you had an instrument. What a magical night. Thanks to all who played, my soul was very merry! To the people who came in later in the evening and decided to block the views of the musicians whom they weren’t even looking at or paying attention to MOVE to the other room where there was plenty of space to chit chat. You ruined it for all who were there to see them play. Musicians bravo!!! Warning it does get fairly warm in there. Please check this place out and they are open till late.
This place hasn't changed at all. Same decor and playlist of what I remember from 12 yrs ago, but what's not broke, don't fix it! Love it. Mixed crowd, busy but room to sit. Little bar stools, benches and all round wood and no faff. Swift friendly service and open till late.
Love this pub! An amazing find in the heart of Oxford. Faboulous crowd, great staff and reasonable prices. We had a fantastic time listening to wonderful live music with one artist better than the other. Thank you for a fun night. Shall be back!!! It's a must for anyone coming to Oxford who wants to experience an authentic Irish pub.
