About This Pub

Ah, The Poachers Pocket – it's one of those spots that just warms your heart with its charm and solid grub. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is a real winner; think juicy ham hock that's packed with flavour, burgers that folks rave about, and even tasty pizzas and salads that keep everyone happy. The team there are spot on too, always going the extra mile to make you feel welcome, whether you're popping in for a quick bite or celebrating something special. On the downside, it's incredibly popular, so you might end up waiting if you haven't booked, and there have been a few mentions of certain dishes not being quite as polished – like that Thai curry that didn't quite deliver. Still, with such high ratings and glowing feedback, it's a fantastic choice for a meal out with friends or family, as long as you keep those little niggles in mind and time your visit right.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely brilliant, with standout dishes like the ham hock and burgers that really hit the spot and leave you craving more.
  • The staff are so welcoming and attentive, making you feel right at home even when the place is buzzing.
  • It's great value for money, especially with options like sharing platters for a casual lunch or family meal.
  • The atmosphere is lovely and cosy, perfect for a special occasion or just a relaxed get-together with mates.
Cons
  • It can get really heaving, so you'll need to book in advance to snag a table and avoid the hassle.
  • Some dishes might not quite live up to expectations, like the Thai chicken curry which was a bit watery and used microwave rice.
  • The dining area feels a tad cramped when it's busy, which could make for a less comfortable experience.

What a beautiful place to find on your birthday weekend. Didn't have a booking & it was busy as, nevertheless, the staff welcomed us in, found us a table, & we had the most stunning meal that we've had in a long time. Definitely 1 to search for if your out on your travels & looking a quaint eaterie. Delicious.

My wife and I ordered the Platter to share with a couple of sides. Very good value and ideal for a quick lunch. Lovely second visit with the family, and we all enjoyed something different. Nice and quiet on a Tuesday, which we appreciated having just come from my father's funeral.

This is a really lovely restaurant and the food here is great. I had the ham hock and what a tasty hunk of meat it was! My wife had the katsu chicken burger and she said it was one of the best things she had eaten in a long time. The sticky toffee pudding was really good. It had loads of butterscotch sauce which pleased me greatly! I liked the decor and the atmosphere was good and very relaxing. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant!

Very busy pub and restaurant near Belfast. Absolutely heaving on the December Saturday night we visited - reservations essential. Food was excellent and the service very good. Vegetarian options available. The mixed salad is absolutely delicious, as was the burger. Pizzas very good - busy takeout service during dinner.

Loved the brie starter very tasty and well presented. Thai chicken curry was ok. The sauce was a bit watery and I'm sure the rice was the microwave packet. Ham hock was huge and very tasty. Boxed The leftover to take home. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Dining area was a little crowded and noisy. Limited parking so you may have to park on the main road. But overall a great restaurant and highly recommended and definitely would go again.
