About This Pub
Ah, The Plough – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot for a proper, no-fuss night out. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is a real highlight; folks are raving about the fresh, tasty mains and even the kids' menu, with one chap mentioning the best cheese and onion pie he's ever had – and that's saying something! The team there, led by Sean and Jill, come across as genuinely welcoming, making it a brilliant choice for family do's or just a quiet drink in the beer garden on a sunny afternoon. It's dog-friendly too, which is a nice touch if you're out for a walk. On the flip side, though, the hours might cramp your style if you're planning a spontaneous evening; the kitchen wraps up early, and it's closed on Mondays, so you'll want to check ahead. Overall, it's a solid spot with a high rating that shows it's doing most things right, but it might not be the place for a wild night – more your go-to for relaxed, homely vibes. If you're in the area, I'd say give it a try; it's got that community feel that's hard to beat.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely spot on – think hearty pub classics like cheese and onion pie or gammon and chips that leave you feeling well satisfied, with plenty of options for kids and even gluten-free choices.
-
The staff are so warm and welcoming; it's like popping round to a mate's house, with top-notch service that makes you feel right at home, especially for events like christenings or birthdays.
-
They've got a lovely beer garden that's perfect for soaking up the sun with a cold pint, and it's dog-friendly too, so you can bring your furry friend along for the fun.
-
Regular events like quiz nights and live music add a great buzz, making it a lively spot without being overwhelming.
-
With an overall rating pushing 4.4, it's clear this place knows how to deliver a good time, backed by glowing feedback on the atmosphere and cleanliness.
Cons
-
The opening hours can be a bit restrictive, with the kitchen shutting as early as 7pm on Sundays and not open on Mondays, so it's not ideal if you're after a late-night bite.
-
Being out in Marland, Rochdale, it might feel a tad out of the way if you're not local, though it's conveniently opposite a park for a nice walk beforehand.
-
While the drinks selection is solid with cask ales and lagers, it doesn't scream variety for those seeking something more adventurous or fancy cocktails.

Very nice pub. Gluten free options on the menu and the kitchen staff are very knowledgeable about cross contamination. As a celiac it's a life saver to have somewhere good to go
Visited again in July on a Tuesday late afternoon. Updated menu, great food and superb service. Well worth a visit.
Visited the Plough on a Wednesday evening around 7pm with a work colleague after a recommendation from my wife. The new layout was excellent with hand sanitizer available on entry along with a track and trace QR code. The waitress was super efficient and the menu provided a superior range of food options thanks to Sean the new manager.
Two drinks, two starters and 2 mains for less than £40 proved excellent value for money. I will recommend this pub/restaurant to my friends without hesitation.
