Lovely pub & restaurant with great staff. Friendly & accommodating. Food is excellent! Not cheap but worth it. Nice pub garden too, trees & benches. Lovely to sit out in the sun with your kids or dog or both!
The Olde Victoria, Burton Latimer: Roasts, Ales & Cosy Vibes Done Right 🍽️🍺🔥
If you’re looking for the kind of pub that ticks every traditional box and then surprises you with food so good it makes you involuntarily sigh mid-bite, let us point you toward The Olde Victoria in Burton Latimer—where Sunday lunch is a spiritual experience and the bar is always stacked with crowd-pleasers.
The Setting: Classic English Charm with a Side of Warm Welcome
The Olde Victoria is everything a proper country pub should be. Wood beams, open fires, low ceilings (watch your head, tall people), and an atmosphere that says, “Relax. You’re in good hands.” Whether you’re there for a pint, a quiet meal, or a family knees-up, this place feels like home—just with better gravy.
The Food: Comforting, Classy and Absolutely Delicious
Let’s talk roasts, because they’re the headline act. Plates piled high with tender meats, golden roasties, Yorkshire puds the size of your head, and veg that actually tastes like it belongs on the plate. And the gravy? Rich, deep, and ladled with zero judgement.
But it’s not just about Sundays. Throughout the week the menu offers thoughtful pub classics—from burgers and steaks to lighter bites and hearty vegetarian options. Everything’s beautifully presented without being poncy, and it all tastes freshly cooked with care.
The Drinks: Ales, Wines & Plenty to Toast With
The bar is well stocked and well run, with local ales, a good wine list, and a G&T that arrives properly poured (no stingy measures here). Whether you’re a craft beer geek or just want a cold pint and a smile, you’re in the right place.
The Service: Friendly, Efficient, and Unflappably Cheerful
The staff at The Olde Victoria strike that perfect balance of attentive but relaxed. They know their stuff, they’re happy to chat, and they make you feel looked after without hovering like helicopter waiters.
The Verdict: A Burton Latimer Favourite That’s Worth a Detour ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Olde Victoria isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel—it’s just doing everything right. Great food, welcoming surroundings, and the kind of local pub atmosphere that’s getting rarer by the day.
Five stars—plus a bonus Yorkshire pudding just for being consistently brilliant.
Book ahead, turn up hungry, and prepare to leave full and happy.
Visited for Sunday Lunch on 26th May. We did book the week previously, and glad we did as i dont think we would have got a table. Parking is plentiful if you have an earlier booking, but can be busy later on and you may have to park away from pub and short walk in. Plenty of seating outside, especially if weather is warm. I had a pint of San Miguel and my wife had a Malibu and coke, which was £9.20. We were seated at our allotted time and the restaurant was busy but tables not too close and they cater for larger parties. There is a 2 or course option for Sunday lunch, we opted for the 2 courses for £25. I had the topside roast beef and my wife had the chicken. There is an option for Lamb shoulder (i will be having next visit). We were served quickly and the staff are very attentive and friendly. My roast beef was delicious as were the roast potatoes, Yorkshire, the roast parsnips and carrots, were also yummy. The veg came out seperate with peas, beans , leeks and cabbage, all of which were very fresh and cooked to perfection, we asked for extra veg and extra gravy. I think you get a better deal with the Chicken option as you get pigs in blankets and stuffing, which you dont get on the beef?? Anyway, my wife said it was the best roast she has had in more than a decade (high praise indeed). I have to agree, the meal was delicious and the portion generous as i could not finish my beef. We could not fault a thing on the plate, so compliments to the kitchen staff. For desert we had Sticky toffee pudding, i had custard and my wife had extra sauce and butterscotch ice cream. It was light yet scrumptious, and we were both full to bursting. The toilets were lovely and clean and probably the best toilets i have visited in a pub/restaurant for along time. Overall, value for money and the food superb. The service excellent, especially Tim the manager, a lovely kind man. By the way for all 3 courses it is £32. We will be back in the next couple of weeks as this was the best Sunday lunch for miles and miles.
We visited over the bank holiday weekend whilst away on holiday with family.
What a lovely pub!
Great food with wonderful service with friendly, approachable staff. The poached pear choux bun, was delicious!!
They had lots going on for the children, but we just had a meal and left. The magnetic boards they offered the children were such a great idea and kept them entertained through the whole meal.
We also loved that both male and female toilets had changing facilities (we no longer require this, but appreciate that it’s very rare that places accommodate for both parents to change a nappy!)
I have only really been here for lunch a few times and I absolutely love the plate to share. It has pate, scotch egg, pork pie, pickled onions and beetles, as well as tiny pickles, ham, cheese, bread, the works! For less than £20 for two people, I feel like it is excellent value, and the food is very tasty. The staff are very nice, but when you’re outside, and it gets busy, it’s easier to go in and get more drinks than to wait for staff to come to you. I really enjoy the outdoor seating when the weather is nice. I highly recommend a visit, or two.
