About This Pub
Ah, The Duke's Arms – it's one of those pubs that just warms your cockles, you know? From the reviews, it sounds like they've really got the knack for making visitors feel welcome, with staff who go out of their way to chat and create that cosy atmosphere. The beers are a highlight, especially the Guinness that's well-priced and spot on, and little extras like the board games and lending library add a nice touch for a relaxed evening. It's refreshing to find an independent spot like this that's full of character and avoids feeling like just another generic pub. On the downside, though, it doesn't kick off until the afternoon, which might not suit if you're after a morning tipple, and the lack of a website makes it a bit tricky to get the latest scoop before heading out. Overall, it's got that authentic pub spirit that's worth seeking out if you're in the area – just pop in for a pint and see what the fuss is about, but keep in mind it might not be perfect for everyone.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely welcoming and make you feel right at home, just like chatting with old mates.
-
They've got a cracking selection of beers, including top-notch Guinness that's reasonably priced – always a winner for a good pint.
-
It's got that genuine, characterful atmosphere of an independent pub, with free board games and even a lending library to keep things fun and relaxed.
-
The crowd's spot on these days, full of friendly faces and a real mix of people, making it a refreshing change from those bland chain spots.
Cons
-
It only opens from around 4 PM, so it's not the best for an early drink or a quick lunch stop.
-
There's no website or online presence to speak of, which means you might have to just turn up and hope for the best when checking details.
-
From what I've seen, it seems to have turned things around from its past, but with mixed info on its current status, it might not be as reliable as some other spots.

I haven't been here for years.
In fact, I've not been here for decades!
The crowd is far better than it was, the pub is far better than it was. And, the Guinness is great and reasonably well priced. I shall return!
Lovely pub, the bar lady was very welcoming.
Nice comfortable place
An excellent pub.
In a time where so many pubs are closing down, becoming soulless “pestaurants” or generic chain-pubs, it’s refreshing to see an independent free house full of character and atmosphere.
Nice to touch to see board games free to use aswell, plus £8:80 for a large red and pint is always welcome!! 🍻👍🏼
Astonishing venue ,for beer enthusiasts
,Don't be surprised to find ales and craft beers from all over the country ,this pub doesn't stand on ceremony it dies what all good pubs should do ,offer great service ,great range of beers and all with a smile ,and banter , definitely one to visit
