About This Pub
Ah, The Old Sugar Loaf – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a reliable mate, you know? Tucked away on High Street in Dunstable, it's open most days from around 10 AM, serving up inexpensive meals that hit the spot. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the food really shines; folks rave about the lasagne and Hunters Chicken being spot-on in taste and presentation, and desserts like the crumble are apparently 'awesome'. It's all about that great value too – generous portions at a fair price, plus handy extras like discounts on parking if you're popping in for a pint. The service gets a thumbs up for being quick and cheerful, and it's lovely how they accommodate families or even shuffle you to a better table for events like Mother's Day. But, let's be honest, it's not all beer and skittles; there are a few niggles, like the burger meat sometimes being a bit tough, which is a shame when the rest of the dish is spot on. And those minor gripes with how drinks are served can feel a tad disappointing. Overall, with a solid 4.0 rating from heaps of reviews, it's a place I'd recommend for a laid-back evening, but maybe go in with realistic expectations – it's got that warm, community feel without trying to be fancy.

Service is quick and comes with a smile, so you won't be left twiddling your thumbs waiting for your order.

Cons
-
There can be the odd food mishap, like grisly meat in the burgers that might put you off finishing your meal.
-
Little things like tea served in a mug with the teabag already in it feel a bit underwhelming for such a cosy spot.
-
Some experiences vary, as not every visit is perfect, with a few reviews mentioning inconsistencies that could dampen the fun.

Absolutely fantastic. I had the lasagne and my brother had the Hunters Chicken, both were delicious. Really good value for money, presentation and taste were brilliant. Thank you. We made sure we left room for dessert. Sooo pleased we did as again both the Crumble & Chocolate cake were awesome.
Went for Mother’s Day, they very kindly moved us to the main room where the entertainment was going to be seen as we were originally put out the front on a random table. The value for money was great! And if you parked there you got £2 back from the car park ticket against drinks which was a great incentive. The roast dinner was huge and it was great! The only downside was my roast potatoes weren’t crispy, they almost felt undercooked and like they had been sat there for a long time. There was a young girl on service and she was the main person I saw on the floor and she was always smiling and always happy to help! The entertainment was great as well :) overall had a great time!
Service with a smile, very short wait times and family friendly. Think similar to spoons style. Would recommend.
Never ordered from here before, so I thought I'd give it a try. They give good portions. I enjoyed the top doughnut, chips, onions rings, bacon, cheese, coleslaw and salad. The burger meat tasted nice but sadly it was grisly throughout and I couldn't eat the bottom doughnut of the burger because it was completely squashed, soggy and inedible. I wouldn't try their burgers again and I would recommend to the restaurant for home delivery to place the 2nd doughnut inside the box to keep it from getting ruined. I would eat from there again, but would try something else. Thanks
Decided to make this my third point of call for a breakfast, I decided on Farmhouse Breakfast consisting of 2 fried eggs, bacon x2, sausages x2, mushrooms, black pudding, grilled tomatoes with toast and mug of tea.
My only criticism was the tea coming in a mug with tea bag already in it, but for £5.95 I'm not gonna moan to much about that.....so a full 5 stars for the friendly service and good value, I will most certainly visit again
