About This Pub

Ah, The Old Smiddy – it's one of those cosy spots in Glasgow that really captures the heart of a good community pub. I've got to say, popping in for a pint or a bite feels like catching up with old mates; the staff are just so approachable and make you feel at ease from the moment you walk through the door. The beer garden is an absolute gem on a sunny day, and with all the live sports on offer, from football to rugby, it's brilliant for watching the big games without the hassle. Their food deals are spot on for a casual lunch or evening meal, and it's nice to see events like quiz nights and live music keeping things lively. On the flip side, though, things can get a tad expensive if you're not careful, and I've heard a few grumbles about skimpy portions on some dishes – those chips in particular might leave you a bit peckish. Still, it's a solid choice for a relaxed get-together, and I'd definitely recommend giving it a go if you're in the area, as long as you keep expectations realistic for your typical pub experience.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready with a smile and helpful recommendations that make you feel right at home.
  • It's got a brilliant atmosphere, especially in the beer garden, which is perfect for soaking up the sun with a pint and enjoying live sports on the screens.
  • They offer a solid selection of drinks, from cracking real ales to cocktails, and the pub food is done well with some great deals that won't break the bank.
  • Loads of community vibes with events like quiz nights, live music, and fund-raisers, making it a proper local spot to catch up with mates.
  • Plenty of thoughtful touches like a car park, accessible facilities, and being dog-friendly, plus kids are welcome for meals until early evening.
Cons
  • Drinks and some items can feel a bit on the pricey side, which might add up if you're settling in for the evening.
  • Portion sizes for certain dishes, like chips, can be disappointingly small, leaving you wanting a bit more bang for your buck.
  • The food's more your standard pub grub rather than anything fancy, so if you're after a gourmet meal, you might find it lacking.

Good pint, good beer garden, good atmosphere - all-around decent spot. Bit pricey but normal for these parts. Friendly staff, terrible portion size for chips.

Absolutely love the Old Smiddy. Great selection of drinks, and the staff are fantastic. Their outdoor space gets a good amount of sun. The food is fine for basic bar food, but let’s be honest you’re not going there for a meal, you’re going there for a well poured pint.

We visited the Old Smiddy tonight for our dinner. The food was great, Andrew cooked everything just as we had asked and it was very reasonably priced. The service and atmosphere were also really good. We will definitely return

Popped in for a quick drink with the missus. Ended up grabbin a bite to eat as well. Got some of the small sharing plates, Chicken wing, goujons and loaded fries. What a delight. Roisin helped us find a table and recomended some nice ales and wines. Will have to return when we're next in the area!

Popped in here for a lovely meal with my partner, I was greeted when I came through the door with a smile which was a nice greeting. After asking for some clarification on a menu item we ordered our food and drinks and didn't have to wait long before they came out. I had the cheese and bacon burger while my partner had steak. Both were fresh and hot, and tasted amazing so thank you very much to Jake and Matthew in the kitchen as well as Niall for some banging cocktails!
