About This Pub

Ah, let me tell you about The Old Orchard—it's one of those places that just sticks in your mind after a visit. Picture this: you're sitting with a mate, gazing out over the Colne Valley, not a building in sight, and it's all tucked away within the M25, which is pretty handy if you're coming from London. The food is spot on—think fresh ingredients turned into hearty British classics with a bit of global flair, like tender scallops or a fillet steak sandwich that could make your day. The staff are an absolute treat, always friendly and efficient, making sure everything runs smoothly without being over the top. Plus, it's got that cosy feel with open fires and a garden that's perfect for warmer weather, and they're great with dogs too, which is a big win if you're out for a walk. On the flip side, it can be a tad tricky to get to if you're not familiar with the area, and with prices on the moderate side, it might stretch the wallet a bit for a full meal and drinks. Still, it's not often you find a spot that's so peaceful yet buzzing with good energy, so I'd say it's well worth popping in for a pint and a bite—honestly, you might just end up staying longer than planned!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The views are absolutely stunning—overlooking the Colne Valley with no other buildings in sight, it's like a hidden gem right within the M25.
  • The food is fresh, delicious, and generously portioned, with classic British dishes that have a lovely twist from around the world.
  • Friendly and efficient staff who make you feel right at home, always ready with a chat and great recommendations.
  • A cosy interior with open fires and comfortable seating, perfect for relaxing on a chilly day.
  • It's dog-friendly and has a lovely garden area, ideal for sunny afternoons with a pint of cask ale.
  • Plenty of drink options, including a great selection of wines and ales, and they even celebrate events like English Wine Week.
  • Private dining room available for larger groups, which is brilliant if you're planning a special gathering.
Cons
  • It might feel a bit out of the way if you're not local, as it's in a rural spot that could take some navigating through traffic.
  • With a moderate price level, it can add up if you're treating a group, so it's worth budgeting for.
  • The pub can get quite popular, especially on weekends, which might mean waits for tables or a busier atmosphere than you'd expect for such a peaceful location.

The Old Orchard is a really kool spot. With both indoor and outdoor areas with seating. We had lunch on the terrace which had a great view of Grand Union Canal and surrounding landscape. The Fish & Chips with Mushy peas, washed down with a Mango cider - and the Sticky Toffee Pudding for the win - went down a treat. Friendly, polite and helpful staff..... what more could we ask for. With the good weather coming we will be visiting again soon.

A lovely last minute decision to go for lunch at a beautiful location looking across the Colne valley. The service was great, friendly and efficient staff and the food was outstanding. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the light bit fishcake and salad and my fillet steak sandwich was a gastronomic delight. Cooked medium rare and the additional balsamic onions in the sandwich were lovely. The dressing on the rocket side salad was a taste sensation and it was a very pleasant experience on a sunny Easter Saturday lunch time. Highly recommended.

Had a really lovely lunch here this Saturday. Nice atmosphere, the staff were friendly and our server was really enthusiastic about the food. I got the scallop starter, halibut main and bread and butter pudding. All of the meals were bloody delicious. The scallops were so tender. My partner got the pork belly starter, chicken gnocchi main and we shared the dessert. Hers was just as delicious and well presented. The views are so beautiful, the venue feels historic and is nestled in nature. Really gorgeous experience, will definitely be back to this gem.
