About This Pub
Ah, The Old Inn – it's one of those pubs that really captures the spirit of Dunfermline, doesn't it? Tucked away in the town centre near the abbey and town clock, it's got this lovely old-school vibe that's just inviting, especially if you're after a spot of history with your pint. I love how they've kept the tradition alive since the 1600s, and it's brilliant for catching live sport in the main bar or chilling out upstairs with a craft beer and one of their award-winning burgers. The staff are always dead welcoming, and the function rooms are great for sorting out a gathering without any fuss. On the flip side, though, I've heard a few tales of the place feeling a bit tired in spots, like that stale whiff from the furniture, and some meals haven't lived up to the hype lately – think underwhelming chips that might leave you wanting more. Still, with its prime location and solid drinks lineup, it's worth a visit if you're in the area; just go in with an open mind and you'll likely have a cracking time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
It's got that wonderful historical charm, being Dunfermline's oldest pub and the birthplace of the local football club – makes you feel like you're stepping back in time while enjoying a pint.
-
The selection of craft beers and ales is spot on, with options from big names like Brewdog to quirky microbrewery finds, perfect for a relaxed evening.
-
Award-winning burgers and fresh dishes like noodle bowls are a real treat, especially in the cosy upstairs lounge where you can unwind after exploring the nearby abbey.
-
Friendly staff and a great atmosphere for watching live sport or hosting events in their function rooms – ideal for birthdays or a night out with mates.
-
Centrally located in the heart of Dunfermline, making it easy to pop in after a wander around the historic sites.
Cons
-
Some areas, like the lounge furniture, can have a bit of a stale smell, which might put you off if you're sensitive to that sort of thing.
-
Food quality seems to have slipped in places, with reports of mediocre burgers and tasteless chips – not always as reliable as it used to be.
-
The front bar is on the small side, so it can feel a tad cramped during busier times.
-
Not everyone finds the beer selection diverse enough, with a few folks wishing for more traditional ales on tap.

Probably should have left after smelling the stale stench emanating from the lounge furniture but
my partner assured me that the food was good… based on a Xmas night out 3 years ago. Clearly it’s gone downhill!Mediocre burger served with tasteless chips. Only managed to eat half of my lunch as someone decided that lunchtime was ideal for doing a sound check. Driven out by blaring music. Never again! One star is being generous
Not so old looking inside . Some history with Dunfermline Athletic being founded here . Friendly barman .
Great old pub, the oldest in town, with a good atmosphere in a perfect spot after a wander round the Abbey. Great pint of Tennents too, although I wish there was some ale on tap. Maybe a Stewart's 80. Really great staff too, I will definitely be back.
Came in for lunch and my wife and I had the Noodle Bowls. Absolutely delicious, flavourful and fresh.
Customer service was also very good and the restaurant itself was comfortable and had a nice aesthetic
The Old Inn is a great pub in Dunfermline. The bar through the front is quite small but has a great atmosphere and is a great place to go and watch football on the TV. The bar through the back is a great place for listening to music when bands play live or there are guest DJ's playing as well. Downstairs is the pool room with a pool table in it as well. There's a great selection of beers and they even have Brewdog on tap as well as bottles. There is also a large selection of gins & whisky's as well as other spirits. The burgers that are on sale are absolutely magnificent and I'd definitely recommend ordering one whenever you are in.
