About This Pub

Ah, The Old Hop Pole – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper community spot, you know? From what I've gathered from folks' chats online, the staff are absolute stars, always jolly and ready to make your visit memorable, which really sets the tone for a relaxed evening. The drinks lineup is a highlight too, with a rotating selection of real ales that give you something fresh to try each week, alongside the usual lagers and even a few cocktails if you're in the mood for something different. That real fire makes it perfect for a winter warmer, and the beer garden's a lovely spot when the weather's on your side. On the flip side, some mates have mentioned the ale choices don't always hit the mark – it's solid but not groundbreaking, which might leave you wanting more if you're a real connoisseur. Plus, the place has that old-school vibe that's charming in its way, but it does feel a bit stuck in time, and with the website being a bit of a mess, it's not always straightforward to get the lowdown. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back pint without spending a fortune, but if you're after something flashy, you might want to look elsewhere – still, I'd say it's well worth popping in for the warm welcome alone.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and make you feel right at home, always up for a chat and adding to the sociable vibe.
  • They've got a solid selection of real ales that change up weekly, plus lagers, ciders, and even some cocktails to keep things interesting.
  • It's got that cosy feel with a real fire for chilly evenings and a beer garden that's perfect for soaking up the sun on warmer days.
  • The place is nice and clean, and it's kept its traditional charm, which is a real treat if you're after an authentic pub experience.
  • Being inexpensive means you can enjoy a good pint without breaking the bank, making it a great spot for a casual night out.
Cons
  • The real ale selection can feel a bit basic at times, not quite living up to the hype if you're expecting a wide variety.
  • It hasn't changed much over the years, so it might come across as a tad outdated for those looking for something more modern.
  • There was a mention of it being closed in some info, which is confusing since it's generally open, but it's worth checking ahead to avoid disappointment.
  • With limited online presence, like that dodgy website, it's not the easiest place to get the latest updates or details before heading over.

Great small local Pub offering a range of real ales which change weekly for a good choice, lagers and ciders also on tap and an extensive cocktail selection. Real fire for those cosy winter evenings and a beer garden for those warm summer nights. A proper pub located on West Brom High Street. #oroperpub can be found on Twitter @OldHopPole

I had heard a lot about this place being a great real ale pub, so I thought I'd check it out. I have to say in that aspect, it wasn't all everyone cracks it up to be, the selection was very basic. Bloke behind the bar was friendly enough, so service was great, and it was an ok place to chill out in for a couple of pints.
