About This Pub

Ah, The Old Function Room – it's one of those hidden gems in Darwen that really warms you up on a visit. From what I've gathered from folks' chats online, it's got this lovely, relaxed atmosphere that's perfect for unwinding with mates, and the staff are absolute stars, always making sure you're looked after. The drinks selection is spot on, with plenty of options that won't break the bank, and the food's a solid choice if you're peckish. It's also brilliant for special occasions, with regular entertainment and a clean setup that makes it ideal for parties or even popping in with the dog. On the flip side, it can be a tad quiet when you'd expect it to be packed, like on a Friday night with the footy on, which might leave you wanting a bit more energy in the room. Overall, it's a dependable spot for a good time without the fuss, and I'd say it's worth checking out if you're in the area – just keep in mind it might be more of a cosy chat than a wild night!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is always spot on – it's relaxed, friendly, and just the right kind of welcoming for a good night out.
  • They've got a cracking selection of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, and it's all reasonably priced, making it great value for money.
  • The food is solid and hits the spot, especially if you're after something simple and affordable.
  • It's super welcoming for everyone, including dogs, and the staff go above and beyond to make you feel at home.
  • Perfect for get-togethers like parties or celebrations, with regular entertainment and a clean, tidy space that keeps things enjoyable.
Cons
  • It can feel a bit quiet at times, even on what you'd expect to be a lively night, like during big events – which might disappoint if you're after a buzzing crowd.
  • The online presence is a bit lacking, with no website or proper claiming on Google, so it might be tricky to find out more before you visit.

It was a Friday night at 9.30pm and Euro 2024 was on when we went in. We expected it to be packed with the Friday night crowd watching the football but to our amazement there was only our party of 4 plus one more chap in there!! There were 2 ladies who served us who were very pleasant. The beer was decent, the room is clean & well decorated but let's hope it has busier times than this through the week, otherwise I fear the worst!

Welcoming and clean environment. Excellent food and service. Maxine and her team go above and beyond. Can recommend for parties, wakes, celebrations etc. Entertainment is organised daily, every week. Well stocked and very reasonably priced bar. You should definitely visit and keep in mind as a venue.

We visited this Bar when passing and glad we did. The atmosphere was really nice, very relaxed and friendly. Allows dogs which is a bonus. There is a great selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available. Reasonably priced. We would definitely recommend and we will be returning.
