About This Pub
Ah, The Old Cock Inn – it's one of those reliable spots in Middleton that I've heard great things about from mates who've popped in. The food is where it truly shines; think hearty, homemade meals with loads of options and specials that leave you wanting seconds, all washed down with a cracking JW Lees beer. The staff are an absolute delight, always up for a chat and making everyone feel welcome, which really gives it that cosy community feel. Plus, with live entertainment, a beer garden, and being family-friendly, it's brilliant for a casual get-together or even hosting an event in their function room. On the flip side, it's not all perfect – the place can come across as a tad basic inside, with no background music to set the mood, so it might not have the buzzing energy you're after on quieter nights. Still, for a solid pint, a good feed, and a relaxed catch-up, it's definitely worth checking out; just go in with realistic expectations and you'll likely have a lovely time.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely top-notch – home-cooked with generous portions that really hit the spot, like those cheese and onion pies or minted lamb baguettes that folks rave about.
-
The staff are so welcoming and friendly, always making you feel right at home, which adds a real community vibe to the place.
-
There's live entertainment and events on offer, perfect for a fun night out, whether it's singing along or catching some sport.
-
It's family-friendly with a beer garden and parking, making it easy to pop in for a relaxed pint or meal with the whole group.
-
The JW Lees beers pair brilliantly with the grub, and they've got a function room for special occasions, which is a nice touch.
Cons
-
The atmosphere can feel a bit flat at times, with no background music and just a basic pub setup, which might not suit those after a more lively buzz.
-
It might not always have that extra spark in the decor or ambiance, so if you're hoping for something more vibrant, it could disappoint.

Lovely food, all home-cooked. Loads to choose from, including specials on the board, but I always have the cheese and onion pie. The coffee was good, all the staff were nice and friendly.
Followed staff from the Hare & Hounds up here! My daughter is obsessed with the signature prawns! Staff are all so lovely. 😊
Food is absolutely fabulous, homemade, large portions couldn't fault it.
Not much atmosphere, no background music, just a basic room in a pub.
I will definitely visit again as the food is worth it x
Went in NYE and had a nice time...singer was ace, beer was going down smoothly and staff were really nice! Food was great and had to go back twice! Thanks for a good night X
