Came here and had the fixed price menu - 3 courses for £24
I don't know if it's just because of the menu, but the portion sizes seemed very small, I had the mussels and the bowl was like a starter size, my friend had the salad off the normal menu and it was a very large portion .
Booked in advance, as it got very busy and I think we would have been lucky to get a table.
Our waiter was very friendly and attentive and the food was ordered and served quickly.
Visited on a Sunday and could easily see why it was busy.
The service was so kind, genuine and friendly without being over the top or intrusive.
Not the cheapest for a pint, but the atmosphere, service and food made up for it - and you get what you pay for, this is no chain.
It's a well furnished, comfortable and pleasant area to sit and enjoy good times and even better food!
I had the flatbread (shredded beef one) but wish I'd have gone for one of the Sunday dinners as they looked amazing. The chunky chips were really good too.
For saying how fresh the food was, the wait was minimal.
Waiting times were good and although our table was required for the next booking we didn't fee rushed to leave, we were politely asked and even got apologised to, too.
The sticky toffee pudding was lush, too,
Won't hesitate to return again in the future!
This venue has recently been refurbished. It has an upmarket decor throughout, giving it a cosy feel ideal for a romantic meal for two or a family / friends group. A flat car park, which makes it ideal for disabled dining and additional seating areas covered and uncovered for outdoor dining.
For large groups, you need to book your meal choices a couple of weeks prior, which is common policy. But it can be a disadvantage if you want to swap items, e.g, mushy to garden peas, adding sides, etc.. so think through your choice before phoning them through or correct then as you arrive. It is a popular venue. For example, Christmas day booking needs to be 18 months to a year in advance.
We were a large group, and many had 3 courses, so a group with varying opinions about the food served, hence the 4 stars as we have different tastes.
The starter favourites were the chefs, homemade soup, the pork ribs, and my wild mushrooms in a white sauce were lovely, too.
Our favourite mains were... the vegetarian Lentil & Squash Wellington, the 1/2 a chicken and the homemade pies- steak & ale and my chicken & ham pie, It was very tasty, with a good amount of pie filling, it was served with mash potatoes, carrots, and a tiny portion of beans. The least popular was the fish and chips, as the fish was dry, and the Pork Porchetta was left by one, as it was too greasy for the guest's taste.
The dessert favourite was Apple & berry crumble with custard. The brownie, although nice, it was spoilt by the large amount of chocolate sauce over it, both guest thought there was too much sauce, which spoilt the experience. Maybe if the chocolate sauce was served in a mini jug instead so the guest could control the amount, it would be a positive improvement.
Overall, this is a lovely venue, with friendly, helpful staff and a good selection of quality food for an array of tastes. We would definitely recommend the Nuthall pub and visit again.
