About This Pub
Ah, The Monkey Walk – it's one of those reliable Wetherspoon pubs that you can pop into for a bargain pint or a bite without fussing over the cost. I have to say, the affordable prices really stand out; it's brilliant for catching up with mates over a meal that won't empty your pockets, and they've got some surprisingly tasty dishes like that Korean sticky chicken that left me impressed. The place itself is clean and welcoming, with a laid-back atmosphere that makes it easy to relax in. On the flip side, though, service isn't always spot on – there've been tales of long waits when it's busy and just one person manning the bar, which can turn a quick stop into a bit of a drag. And let's not gloss over the food quality; some reviews mentioned a vegan pizza that sounded downright disappointing, like it was made from cardboard, which is a shame when the rest can be so good. Overall, it's worth a visit if you're in Coalville and after good value, but maybe keep expectations in check for those busier times – it's all about picking the right moment to swing by for the best experience.
Pros and Cons

-
They've got some tasty food options on offer, like that new Korean sticky chicken dish that's surprisingly good for the price.
Cons
-
Service can be a bit hit or miss, with times when it's understaffed and things take longer than you'd hope, leading to a frustrating wait.
-
Some food items don't quite hit the mark, like that vegan pizza which was described as tough and subpar – not what you'd expect even for budget eats.
-
There are occasional slip-ups where the overall experience feels disorganised, which might put you off if you're after a smooth visit.

Nice staff good food and very cheap,, well worth going
Absolute shambles Tuesday morning around 10.45am. Arrived and one person working the bar. Dealing with a customer which took time. Understandable. It took 15 minutes. In that time more people came to bar. Server then went delivering food. When she came back she went to newest arrived customer. Walked out
Very reasonable prices in a large friendly, clean and welcoming venue. I was impressed with their tasty new Korean sticky chicken dish. Bottomless coffee still only £ 1.04 would you believe?
We visited The Monkey Walk in December 2023. The pub is in an interestingly-shaped building located in Coalville’s Marlborough Square. It’s a reasonably small L-shaped pub, with a few seating areas tucked away at the side with fireplaces. When we visited it had been recently re-decorated, with the walls freshly painted a pleasant neutral shade of grey. The pub does have a beer garden to the rear but it’s tiny, only hosting a few tables and mainly serving as an area for smokers to pop outside. The toilets are upstairs and pleasantly decorated, with modern patterned tiles and marble-look basin tops.

Stay Away.
I ordered a vegan pizza (see the image below) and the quality was substandard, the texture of the base was like tough, thin cardboard and the appearance of the 'pizza' overall was of very low standard. I would personally be embarrassed that something like that represents my establishment. In my opinion, it would be difficult even for an experienced attorney to defend the quality of it. The interior and atmosphere of this establishment is dark and oppressive, making you feel tense. To compound matters the management are unprofessional. For example, serious false allegations can be made against you by an individual(s) - known in law terms as hearsay, with no hard evidence to substantiate the hearsay and it is their word (the individual who made the allegation) against yours; management sides with the individual(s) making the allegation resulting in unjust barring. In my opinion, a downmarket establishment with very serious problems, there is something very wrong about this establishment. I would strongly advise against using this establishment. I had to write this review, as this experience was bearing heavy on my soul, because i was the truth regarding the matter and God knows this. It is certainly worth paying more sometimes to eat, drink and socialise elsewhere and it is thanks to God that i am in a position to do so. I walked into a nightmare and If you are lucky enough to be barred from this establishment, it is the equivalent of a liberation.
