About This Pub

Ah, The Maxwells – it's one of those pubs that just makes you feel right at ease the moment you walk in. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food really steals the show; think sizzling skillets and flame-grilled burgers that are cooked to perfection with fresh, quality ingredients, and they've got options for everyone, including veggies and vegans. The staff are an absolute delight, always cheerful and attentive, whether you're there for a family lunch or a big gathering – I love how they handle large groups without missing a beat. Plus, it's got that genuine community feel, chipping in for local causes and offering spaces for events, which makes it more than just a place for a pint. On the flip side, though, there was that one review where a delivery order went south – bad meat and cold chips, with a refund that didn't quite hit the mark – so if you're ordering in, it might not live up to the in-pub experience. Overall, it's a solid spot for a relaxed night out, with plenty of positives that outweigh the niggles, and I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in Loughborough and fancy a bite with good company.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – fresh ingredients, great quality, and plenty of options including vegan and vegetarian choices, making it a real treat for a meal out.
  • The staff are so friendly and welcoming; they go out of their way to make you feel at home, whether you're popping in for a quick drink or booking for a big group.
  • It's got that proper community vibe, supporting local charities and offering their function area for free – feels like a pub that's part of the neighbourhood.
  • Value for money is brilliant, with daily offers and affordable prices that don't skimp on taste, perfect for a casual get-together with mates or family.
  • The atmosphere is cosy and inviting, especially after their recent renovation, giving it a fresh, lively feel without losing that traditional pub charm.
Cons
  • There have been a couple of dodgy experiences with delivery orders, like one where the food was off and the refund process felt a bit stingy, so it might not be the best for takeaways.
  • The operating hours seem a tad inconsistent in the listings, which could catch you out if you're planning a late visit – always worth double-checking before heading over.

My husband and I have been here quite a few times and we had lunch here again today, the drinks were refreshing and the food was brilliant as usual, cooked to perfection, fresh and of quality. the staff were all welcoming friendly attentive and helpful, smiling and cheerful which makes you feel very welcome, the refit is also excellent first time back here since it was done, and the place looks lovely, really bright and airy. :)

Just been to the Maxwells for the first time since it’s renovation. I’m sure people can agree it needed a lick of paint and now the pub looks great. I ordered the tomahawk pork and it was absolutely delicious. The service was amazing and all the staff had a smile on their face. Props to the manager(s), they’ve turned the place around. We’ll definitely be back!

Ordered a burger and fries via just eat. The burger was absolutely horrendous. Discoloured meat that tasted disgusting. To top it off the chips were cold. Offered £3.74 refund via just eat for a meal that cost £13.76. Refused partial refund to pursue full refund.
