About This Pub
Ah, let me tell you about The Malt Shovel Tavern – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local hideaway, you know? From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the atmosphere is spot on; it's got that cosy, traditional charm that's becoming a rare find these days, with a nice crowd that makes you feel welcome straight away. The beers are a highlight – think excellent ales and traditional options that go down a treat, especially if you're partial to a pint of something like Oakham JHB. And don't overlook the food; they've got cracking choices like pasties and cheese boards that are ideal for a casual munch while you're catching up with mates. Plus, the live blues nights add a fun twist, and everything's kept impeccably clean, right down to the courtyard which is perfect for a sunny afternoon. On the downside, it might leave you scratching your head if you're not sure about the food situation, as it's more geared towards light bites rather than a hearty meal, and without a website, it's not the easiest to plan a visit. All in all, though, it's a fantastic spot for a relaxed evening out – I'd say it's well worth popping in for a drink and seeing what all the fuss is about.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is absolutely brilliant – it's got that warm, traditional pub feel that's so inviting and makes you want to stay for another pint
-
Friendly staff who make you feel right at home, always up for a chat and quick with service
-
A cracking selection of beers and ales, including traditional options that really hit the spot
-
Tasty food choices like pasties, meat and cheese boards, and pork pies – perfect for a light bite after a walk or while enjoying a drink
-
Live music on the first Wednesday of the month with great bands, adding a lively buzz to the place
-
Spotlessly clean throughout, from the bar to the toilets, and a lovely courtyard for when the weather's nice
Cons
-
There might be a bit of confusion about food options, as one person wasn't sure if it's available, though others rave about it – worth checking in advance
-
No website listed, which makes it a tad tricky to get more details online before heading out
-
It's more of a traditional setup, so if you're after something modern or a full sit-down meal, it might not quite fit the bill
