About This Pub

Ah, the Old Bank – it's one of those pubs that really hits the mark for a laid-back evening out in Northampton. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff are just fantastic; they're quick to serve with a smile and make you feel like you're chatting with old friends, which is spot on for everything from a quick drink to celebrating something special. The atmosphere is just the right mix of cosy and lively, especially if you're into watching the big games on Sky Sports or enjoying a bit in the beer garden on a sunny day. It's also great to see it's family and dog-friendly, so you can bring the whole crew along. On the flip side, though, the food gets mixed reviews – some rave about it, but others say it's not quite tasty enough or the portions are a tad skimpy, so you might want to stick to the drinks if you're not feeling adventurous. Overall, it's a solid choice for us pub goers looking for a reliable spot with a warm welcome, but keep those expectations in check for the grub to avoid any disappointments. I'd say it's worth a visit, especially if you're in the area for an event or just fancy a pint without the fuss.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – friendly, attentive, and always going the extra mile, making you feel right at home, whether it's for a casual drink or a special occasion like a wedding.
  • It's got a lovely, vibrant yet cosy atmosphere, perfect for catching live sports or just relaxing with mates over a pint, and the location in the heart of Northampton is spot on.
  • They offer a solid food menu with some tasty options, especially if you're popping in for a bite after an event, and it's family-friendly with facilities like a beer garden and Sky Sports to keep everyone entertained.
Cons
  • The food can be a bit hit or miss; some folks have mentioned it's not always up to scratch in terms of taste or portion sizes, which might leave you wanting more.
  • It can get quiet during off-peak times, like weekday afternoons, so if you're after a buzzing crowd, you might need to time your visit right, perhaps on football days.

We had our wedding reception here yesterday after being married opposite at the Guildhall, and can highly recommend here if you are doing the same or for any special function. Denise and her team are amazing! Nothing is too much trouble for them and they went above and beyond to make sure our special day went smoothly. The buffet food was lovely, with all guests giving us very positive comments about it. Thank you to you all for an amazing experience! Xx

Great pub with friendly service and a solid food menu Dropped by The Old Bank with the lads for a beer before our graduation and ended up returning after the ceremony to try a few more. The atmosphere was lively yet relaxed — perfect for the occasion. A special shoutout to the barman Ollie, who was incredibly helpful and welcoming. We didn’t hesitate to leave a tip. We ordered the mac and cheese for my kid, which she enjoyed, and the loaded nachos truly lived up to their name — generous portions and full of flavour. There’s also a wide variety of snacks and pub food on the menu. A great spot whether you’re out with friends or family.

We came on Sunday to have dinner and left very happy. The place was not very crowded so the service was quick and perfect since the beginning. Our servers were Rut and Tia and they had such a nice and professional attitude, which made the whole experience better. The food was splendid as well: got a couple of Sunday roast and the mac&cheese, both of them delicious!!!

I visited the bar this week for a drink. The bar is clean and welcoming and the barmaid was friendly. Very quiet as I visited on a weekday afternoon, was told by staff that it’s very busy on football days.
