About This Pub
Oh, let me tell you about The Magnet Freehouse – it's one of those pubs that really stands out in Stockport, like stepping into a beer lover's dream. They've got this massive array of cask and keg beers from all over, including some rare finds from microbreweries, and it's all served up in a warm, friendly environment that's perfect for catching up with mates over a pint. I love how it's family-run and has picked up all these awards, which just adds to that genuine, welcoming charm. Plus, their pizza nights on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays are a nice touch for when you fancy something to nibble on alongside your drink. On the flip side, it's not ideal if you're not into beer; the soft drink choices are pretty sparse, like only having bottled options for things like sugar-free Coke, which feels a tad pricey and less convenient. And honestly, it does get packed, so you might have to hunt for a spot, but that's probably a sign of how good it is. All in all, if you're after a top-notch pub experience with great brews and a relaxed atmosphere, this one's a winner, though it's worth noting those little drawbacks to keep things real.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The beer selection is absolutely brilliant – with 14 ever-changing cask ales, craft kegs, and a mix of bottles from the UK, Belgium, and beyond, there's always something new to try, and they even let you sample before you commit.
-
It's got such a warm and welcoming vibe, being a family-run spot that's won multiple awards, including from CAMRA, making it feel like a proper cosy local where you can relax and chat.
-
They've got Thursday to Saturday pizza nights with stonebaked options from their outdoor pizzeria, which sounds like a fun way to pair a pint with some tasty food.
-
The staff are friendly and efficient, and the pub itself is spacious with different areas, including a sheltered outside spot, perfect for a get-together.
Cons
-
Options for non-drinkers are a bit limited; for instance, sugar-free Coke only comes in bottles, which means paying a premium without the convenience of taps like they have for the beers.
-
It can get really busy at times, making it tricky to find a seat, especially if you're popping in on a popular evening.

Fabulous selection of real ales for my partner. Didn't have food. Disappointed they only have bottles of sugar free coke for those of us that don't drink so we pay a premium rather than on tap like all the alcohol.
Amazing real ale pub that’s quite unassuming from the outside considering the set up when you get in. Loads of real ales on including a couple of stouts that I really enjoyed. It’s big inside with several areas including a sheltered outside area however it was heaving and I had to sit with some locals. Everyone I spoke to were really friendly and all said how much they loved the pub. Really is no wonder as it’s fantastic and I can’t wait to go back. Most highly recommended 🍻👍
An oasis in Stockport like entering and leaving different worlds, lovely decor and a fantastic selection of beers something for everyone, had ‘Karen From Accounts” they had “Dirty stopout” last night also a “Disco Balls” if you’re in Stockport come here, nice staff friendly locals
An absolute drinkers paradise with friendly, efficient service. It’s only Monday and we have 11 of the 12 cask ales pouring plus additional craft keg lines.
A truly fantastic pub to visit and lament that there’s not more like it.
For me this pub is a real ale 5* heaven. Been about 5 times in the past. Thirteen of fourteen handpumps available on my Candlemass visit. I even found a new brewery..Flying Gang from Ponteland. I had an excellent pint of Spanish Gold £4.20. Casta not so happy as the rosé wine was Zinfandle which he dislikes intensely and thus settled on a cider, £4.10 a pint. The many rooms wrap round the central bar. There is also a covered courtyard/conservatory to rear. No TV'S thankfully but there is a games room with a pool table and two dart boards. Also books and boardgames available. Littlewoods pies and bar snacks. Not a food pub. Super visit for me. Casta not so happy.
