About This Pub

Ah, Doyle’s Tavern – it's one of those neighbourhood gems in North London that just feels right for a casual get-together. From what I've gathered, the vibe is spot-on; it's all about that friendly, down-to-earth atmosphere where you can pop in for a chat or catch up on the latest match with mates. The live events, like DJ nights and karaoke, really liven things up, especially on Fridays and Saturdays, and I love how they've got a beer garden for those balmy evenings. Plus, it's heartening to see them supporting local causes with charity events – makes you feel good about choosing this spot. On the flip side, the drink options are pretty straightforward, so if you're keen on a wider variety of brews, you might find it a bit lacking. And while it's generally affordable, some folks have mentioned it's just okay rather than outstanding, which is fair – it's not trying to be fancy, just a solid local haunt. Overall, if you're after a place that's unpretentious and community-oriented, I'd say give it a go; it's got that authentic pub charm that'll make you want to return for more.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The friendly atmosphere really makes you feel at home, like you're chatting with mates in a cosy local spot.
  • It's brilliant for catching live sports with multiple HD screens and a massive projector, so you won't miss a thing.
  • They've got a great lineup of events like DJs, live bands, and karaoke on weekends, plus a beer garden that's perfect for soaking up the summer sun.
  • Being family-owned and community-focused, they host charity fundraisers, which adds a nice heartwarming touch to the place.
  • Prices are quite reasonable, making it an affordable option for a night out without breaking the bank.
Cons
  • The beer selection is a bit limited, mostly sticking to classics like Guinness, John Smith's, and Fosters, so if you're after something more adventurous, you might be disappointed.
  • Some reviews suggest it's just 'not too bad', which means it might not stand out as the most exciting spot compared to others in London.
  • The operating hours can seem a tad confusing with varying times listed, so it's worth double-checking before heading over.

Excellent service and great atmosphere with the best quality food and the regulars were friendly and we enjoyed our time. Left quite tipsy and made hot steamy sex with a lady who we met outside having a cigarette...

A traditional, local Irish pub. It looks good for watching sport, has a juke box and there was a singer on the Saturday evening that we were there. A reasonable selection of drinks, but for beer, think Guinness, John Smith's and Fosters.

🚇 Caledonian Road 🍺 £4.50 Pravha A Warm and Welcoming Friendly Local. Doyle’s Tavern is located opposite Pentonville Prison on Caledonian Road in Islington. The nearest Tube is Caledonian Road, it’s a five minute walk to get here. This pub was built in 1856 and started life as The Prince Arthur. This former Charrington’s pub is owned and has been run pub by the Doyle family for the past 30 years. The is a large one bar boozer that is bright, modern and spacious. The bar is set out in a horseshoe shape that wraps around a central servery. This pub has been modified over the years but still retains the original Charrington’s back bar. There is plenty of seating around the perimeter of the bar including some comfy booths on the left hand side. The pub has a pool table which is a rare find this central, there is also a couple of dartboards which get plenty of use. Around the walls are a few mirrors, beer signage, a Jukebox, large screen tv’s and a signed 1971 Arsenal double winning shirt. At the rear of the pub is a courtyard beer garden which is a suntrap and blooms in the summer. The beer line up was a selection of familiar keg favourites. I decided on a Pravha, my pint hit the spot and was reasonably priced at under a fiver. This is a wet-led pub that doesn’t serve food. We arrived around 3.30pm on a chilly Saturday afternoon in December. The atmosphere was calm and relaxed with a loyal local crowd in attendance. We got a warm and welcoming reception by the lovely lady who was working behind the bar. She was kind enough to tell us all about the pub and the fact the pub has a few Dart teams that play here throughout the week. We also got talking to a few locals, they were very friendly and we had a good laugh and giggle with them. Doyle’s has plenty on to keep you entertained. On Friday and Saturday Nights there are DJ's, Live bands and Disco-Karaoke. The pub also shows all Live Sporting Events including Premier League. The Caledonian Road or “The Cally” as it’s affectionately known, pretty much had a pub on every corner. There used to be twenty pubs on this two mile stretch of road but today only seven survive. Thankfully @379doylestavern endures, this is a warm and welcoming friendly local, a pub we absolutely loved visiting. ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 30.12.23
